Audiobook Review: Terra (Elemental Mates, #6) by Miranda Bridges and Kyra Snow. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨

I’m 5 seconds from being incinerated…First by an alien wolf.
Then by an alien male who’s hot.
And my new owner.
That right there, is a turn-off.

However, he knows where there are other humans.
All I need to do is help him find some rock and he’ll take me to them.
Sounds easy enough.

Well, it’s not.
Because Maxim does something no one else has.
He sees me, scars and all, and isn’t disgusted.
Actually, the chemistry between us is scorching, more than my wolf’s fire.

But he’s being a gentleman.
Lame.
Confusion is not a strong enough word for how I feel.
To seduce or not to seduce, that is the question.

But it’s kind of hard to do that when everything and everyone is trying to kill you…

Character Backgrounds and Plot Summary

Ivy and Maxim make an interesting couple because both carry emotional scars, but they deal with their pain in very different ways. Ivy is a human woman who has endured terrible treatment because of the burn scars left by the fires that devastated her home. Rather than letting her past completely break her, she has developed a sharp tongue and a stubborn streak that I absolutely loved. She is also connected to Cobalt, a dangerous, fire-breathing kielie who becomes her unlikely companion and protector. Their bond was one of the most memorable elements of the story for me because it shows that Ivy’s compassion can reach beyond appearances and expectations.

Maxim is an Earthblood commander and physician who has devoted himself to helping others, but he struggles to extend that same compassion to himself. He blames himself for his brother’s death and believes that he doesn’t deserve happiness. When his mission to track down the mysterious Master brings him into contact with Ivy, he discovers that she is his fated mate. Unfortunately, finding his mate doesn’t make his problems disappear. His responsibilities, his guilt, and the dangers surrounding their mission all threaten to get in the way of their relationship.

The story takes them to Eylarus, where the search for the Master leads to encounters with a hidden group of Aetherbloods. Maxim’s capture and the threat of torture add real danger to their journey, while Ivy’s determination to help him demonstrates that she is far more than someone who needs rescuing. Their growing connection develops alongside the larger mystery, giving the romance and the ongoing series plot room to intersect.

Highlights and Limitations

Ivy was a big reason this story worked for me. I appreciated that her scars were part of her history without being the entirety of her identity. She has survived cruelty, yet she still has the ability to care deeply, and her relationship with Cobalt brings out that softer side without taking away her feisty personality. I particularly enjoyed the contrast between Cobalt’s frightening reputation and the loyalty he develops toward her.

Maxim’s internal struggle was another highlight. His guilt over his brother’s death explains why he finds it so difficult to believe he deserves a future with Ivy. I tend to enjoy heroes who have to confront their own emotional barriers rather than simply becoming protective and possessive, so I liked that Maxim had something meaningful to overcome. Ivy also brings a different energy to the relationship, challenging the way he sees himself.

The action surrounding the search for the Master kept the plot moving, and the revelations involving the Aetherbloods added another layer to the series mythology. I enjoyed having a larger mystery unfolding alongside the romance instead of watching the couple exist in a vacuum.

My biggest reservation was the pacing. There is a lot happening between the developing relationship, Maxim’s personal trauma, the dangerous mission, and the wider conflict. I would have liked a little more breathing room for some of the emotional moments, particularly as Ivy and Maxim learn to trust each other. Their connection has potential, and I sometimes wanted the story to linger longer on the quieter interactions instead of moving so quickly to the next crisis.

Narration

Lynn Devereux and Drake Edwards provide a dual-narration performance that suits the contrasting personalities of Ivy and Maxim. Devereux captures Ivy’s sharpness and vulnerability, helping her sound resilient without losing the hurt underneath her humor. Edwards brings a grounded quality to Maxim, which works well for a commander and physician struggling with guilt and a sense of responsibility.

I also appreciated the value of hearing both perspectives in a romance where the characters have such different emotional obstacles. Ivy’s stubbornness and Maxim’s tendency to carry everything on his own shoulders create an interesting contrast, and the two narrators help make those differences clear. Their performances complement the mixture of romantic tension, danger, and emotional conflict.

Final Opinion

Terra was an entertaining addition to the Elemental Mates series, with a heroine I enjoyed rooting for and a hero whose emotional baggage gave the romance some substance. Ivy’s bond with Cobalt was a standout for me, while Maxim’s struggle to forgive himself made me want to see him finally accept that he could have something good in his life.

I would have preferred a little more time devoted to the relationship’s emotional development, but I still enjoyed the balance of alien adventure, fated-mate romance, and continuing series mysteries. The revelations surrounding the Master and the Aetherbloods also left me interested in what comes next.

I’d recommend this one to readers who enjoy resilient heroines, protective alien heroes, emotional healing, and steamy science-fiction romance. I would also suggest reading the earlier books first, since the ongoing plot and world-building are easier to appreciate with the series’ background in place.
