A Farewell to Charms by Molly Harper
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Eva Boudreaux keeps the truth about her life before arriving in Mystic Bayou a carefully guarded secret, flying under the radar as a talented boat mechanic. In the swampy little town filled with powerful supernatural beings, Eva never expected to strike up a charged flirtation with one of the Bayou’s human residents.
…
Alex Lancaster is far too polished for Eva’s taste – not to mention the danger that comes with his high-ranking position in the League, which could expose her secrets. Trouble is, she can’t resist his disarming sense of humor or the chemistry that crackles to life whenever he’s near. Will Alex be able to handle a woman like her? Or will her difficult past keep them apart?
…
Either way, they’ll need to join forces to solve one final mystery in Mystic Bayou. The fate of the town – and their hearts – depends upon it.

Good-bye Mystic Bayou!

The heroine: Eva Boudreaux – moved to Mystic Bayou to work as a boat Mechanic for Jon Carmody. She lives in a trailer on Jon’s property. She is tall, blonde, strong and has a huge secret she is hiding from everyone in Mystic Bayou.
The Hero: Alex Lancaster – he works for the International League for Interspecies Cooperation as a lawyer and the director of the Mystic Bayou office. He is polished, well dressed and handsome but comes from less than ideal roots. He grew up on the road with a traveling carnival where as a teenager he fell in love with Cordelia Canton who now also lives in Mystic Bayou.
The Story: Eva helps out Alex when his car breaks down and they are attracted to each other though Eva is very wary of Alex since he is a big-wig for the League in Mystic Bayou and most of magique grew up fearing the League. Eva is even more leery of Alex after he tells her that he had run a background check on her and it only led to more questions.
I like that Eva is a strong female character and I liked the mystery surrounding her. Also she turns out to be of a race that was surprising and made for a more fantastical story that your standard shifter and fairy stories. The fact that Eva is the big strong one in the relationship also made it more interesting.
This is the last book in this awesome series and though I have loved some of the books more than others, I just love this whimsical town and all the people who have found a home there (supernatural and human alike). This book was narrated by Amanda Ronconi and Jonathon Davis like all the rest and I can’t be more pleased with the way these two have so many voices and accents. These books are so close to a full cast audiobook with all the different voices and characters.
This was the last book in the series and I am a bit sad to say good-by to Mystic Bayou. I will definitely miss all the folks that live there. Especially Zed and Bael!
