Bennett Mafia by Tijan
My rating: 5 of 5 stars.
There were always whispers about my roommate at Hillcrest Academy.
The wealthiest of the wealthy sent their kids to our boarding school, and Brooke Bennett had been at the top, though I never quite knew why. She was fun and outgoing, but she kept quiet about her family. The only things she showed me were photographs of her brothers.
I became fascinated with her second-oldest brother. Kai Bennett.
He was the most of them all. Smoldering. Hypnotic. Alluring.
Kai had eyes that pulled me in and a face that haunted my dreams.
Then I met him.
He came to our school with their father, and that’s when I learned what kind of family Brooke came from. They were mafia, and Brooke’s oldest brother was dead. Her father said accident, but Brooke said murder.
Three months later, her father died, and Kai became the head of the Bennett Family. Brooke left Hillcrest for good, and that was the last time I saw her.
Fourteen years later, I’m staring at her face on the television. Brooke is missing.
Two days later, Kai Bennett kidnaps me.

The setting: Canada, Minneapolis, Milwaukee
The Hero(s): Kai Bennett – Leader of the Bennett Mafia Family. He is looking for his sister who disappeared recently. He kidnaps his sister’s best friend from Boarding school to attempt to find her.
The heroine: Riley Bello – was roommates with Brooke Bennet in boarding school when they were younger. She now works for a group that helps people escape dangerous situations. She was trained for it an lives under an assumed name. She was once helped by the same group.
The Love Story: Kai is harsh and broody. He has a lot on his shoulders and had for a very long time. While being held captive by Kai, Riley gets closer to him and they end up finding themselves attracted to each other.
Riley has a terrible opinion of Kai since Brooke told her when they were young that Kai had murdered their oldest brother. He then murdered his father and came to bring Brooke home from school. However, as time goes on, she finds herself getting to know the man and what he stands for.
I liked this story, it was a bit different than most of the Tijan books I have read. I know I had read something on the Bennett Mafia in one of the other Tijan books I had read. I can’t even remember which one, but I put this on my TBR at the time. It was definitely worth reading. Far from the standard Mafia Captive Romance.
With regard to the narration, the book was told in Riley’s POV, not dual POV. I generally like Dual POV in romance, but I have to say the narration in this was terrific beside it being a woman. She has a great feminine voice but also does male voices so good. I really enjoyed listening to this on via audiobook.
