I Bet You by Ilsa Madden-Mills
My rating: 5 of 5 stars.
Sexy Athlete: I bet you . . .
Penelope Graham: Burn in hell, quarterback.
The text is random but Penelope figures out exactly who “Sexy Athlete” is. And why she shouldn’t take his wager.
Ryker Voss.
Football star.
Walks on water and God’s gift to women.
Just ask him.
His bet? He promises Penelope he’ll win her the heart of the guy she’s been crushing on. His plan—good old-fashioned jealousy. Once her crush sees her kissing Ryker, he’ll realize what he’s missing. Sounds legit, right? The only question is . . . why is Ryker being so nice to her?
Penelope Graham.
Virgin.
Lover of sparkly vampires and calculus.
His mortal enemy.
Penelope knows she shouldn’t trust a jock, but what’s a girl to do when she needs a date to Homecoming? And Ryker’s keeping a secret, another bet, one that will destroy Penelope’s heart forever.
Will the quarterback score the good girl or will his secrets mean everyone loses this game of love?
I Bet You
She has a parrot named Vampire Bill

The setting: Waylon University
The Hero(s): Ryker Voss – QB1 and the most handsome guy at the school. Ryker is always surrounded by Jersey Chasers. He had some trouble last year when his best friend on the team was fighting illegally and he didn’t tell anyone on the team. His friend was suspended for several games and Ryker was cleared but not until his name was dragged through the mud.
The heroine: Penelope Graham – she is a smart girl who studies in her free time and wants to someday be a romance novelist. She daydreams and writes historical romances and they always seem to star Ryker Voss. Her father was a football player and left her mother when she got pregnant, so Penelope will never date a football player
The Love Story: Ryker and his friends have bets going all the time and he makes a bet about Penelope. Penelope has a crush on a studious guy in one of her classes and Ryker tells her he will help her get a date with the guy.
I love Ilsa Madden-Mills books, they have plenty of steam and lots of humor. I am just getting in to audiobooks so I thought this would be a good one to listen to. I enjoyed the narration, though there was something about the inflection sometimes in the woman’s voice that made me dislike Penelope a bit. I am not sure if it was how she was reading certain lines or the actual words, but I suspect it was how she was reading it.
I guess I just got the impression that Penelope was a bit uppity from the way she said certain things. Though overall I really did like the narration and the story was great. I do like sports romances and I love it when the protagonist has an animal. This one was a parrot named Vampire Bill and Penelope was teaching him a new word every day. Overall this is rated 4.5 so I will give it 5 stars.
