*Meet Lena and the ASH crew in this New Adult, Reverse Harem novel.*
My Review of Secrets At Montclair Academy
Questions and cliffhangers!
The bully romance or enemies to lovers romance are a huge favorite of mine. Saying that though, I don’t really like the trend in books today to make these high school bullies into so much more than just bullies or rich entitled jerks. I mean I think that authors could do enough with the high school bully theme by just having them be bullies or even kings of the school (most popular guys).
Though lately I have read some of these bully romances where the teens are in the Mafia, where they are in a heist crew, and in this one the bullies work for a drug lord and are trying to take the entire cartel down. So really they are working for the drug lord but undercover because they are trying to get information in order to convict.
The book isn’t bad, it is just a bit unbelievable which is why I have questions. It centers around a girl named Adelena (Lena) who’s parents have died of a Heroine overdose. She is only seventeen so she is sent to Arizona to live with a wealthy aunt. Lena is enrolled at Montclair Academy which is a prestigious private school, but right from the start, the students all know that she comes from a poor background and her parents were drug addicts that overdosed.
Lena gets called names and some of the students think that she is a drug dealer. Though with drug addicted parents she stays far away from drugs herself. The three guys that run the school, Aiden, Sawyer and Huntley are the worst of the bullies at first. However, it is not long before they come to like her and they hang out together.
Lena is a tough girl due to her background and it doesn’t take long before she is approached by the Drug Lord who wants her involved and she finds out that that Aiden, Huntley and Sawyer are part of the cartel, though they are trying to take it down.
The whole part about them taking it down just doesn’t make much sense to me. It seems like the Drug Lord has already in the past had them do things that they could use in prosecution. The same thing happens near the end of the book, which I don’t want to give away, but it just seems to me that what happens before the cliffhanger could all be used against the Drug Lord.
I voluntarily read & reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
