Into the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant
My rating: 5 of 5 stars.
Seven years ago, the Atargatis set off on a voyage to the Mariana Trench to film a “mockumentary” bringing to life ancient sea creatures of legend. It was lost at sea with all hands. Some have called it a hoax; others have called it a maritime tragedy.
Now, a new crew has been assembled. But this time they’re not out to entertain. Some seek to validate their life’s work. Some seek the greatest hunt of all. Some seek the truth. But for the ambitious young scientist Victoria Stewart this is a voyage to uncover the fate of the sister she lost.
Whatever the truth may be, it will only be found below the waves.Into The Drowning Deep
But the secrets of the deep come with a price.
Death at Challenger Deep, what more could you ask for?

Not since I read Meg by Steve Alten have I been so enamored of a new species of killer in the deep waters of the the Mariana Trench. This was an awesome book with a great premise. No Disney princesses in this book. The so-called Mermaids were what they would actually be like if they existed. A scary thought for sure.
When I first read this book there wasn’t a TV show about Sirens that look like Killer mermaids so this book was much more shocking to me than it probably is to people who read it now. But I still think it is worth the time. Also for some reason since the first time my Dad took me to see Jaws, I seem to love stories about the dangers in the ocean. I actually have been meaning to re-read Meg and read more of that series and I still have Circe as well. Just need time…
