I’m in an alien zoo.
Inferno
The only problem is I’m the one in the exhibit.
If I thought being abducted was scary it’s nothing compared to being gawked at by aliens everyday. Some of them look like they want to eat me while others look like they want to play with me.
However, there’s one male who stares at me with a blazing hunger that’s as bright as his red hair. It makes me think he wants to eat me and play with me in the most sinful ways.
I don’t have time for that, but it doesn’t stop me from asking for his help. He agrees only if I promise to be his mate.
Yeah, whatever. I’ll say and do just about anything to get back to my sister.
Can I walk away from the flames of his desire without getting burned? Or will he make me his, effectively incinerating my intentions to leave?

Character Backgrounds and Plot Summary
Kayla has already been through more than enough since Earth was devastated by catastrophic fires and alien abductions. Separated from the safety she once knew and determined to protect her twin sister, Khloe, she ends up on Guuldor, where she is sold to the owner of an alien zoo and forced to live as an exhibit for curious and sometimes dangerous visitors. Just when things look pretty hopeless, Commander Blaze, a powerful Fireblood warrior, enters the picture.
Blaze initially believes Khloe is his fated mate, but when he discovers she isn’t the woman connected to his elemental potential, he learns about her twin, Kayla, and sets out to find her. His determination takes him far beyond his original mission. He even manipulates the assignment system to pursue Kayla himself. When he finally locates her in the zoo, he has to figure out how to rescue her without putting her life in even greater danger.
Their escape becomes complicated when the zoo’s Master discovers Blaze’s plans and uses the explosive implanted in Kayla’s head to force Blaze into cooperating with him. Suddenly, Blaze’s strength and warrior instincts aren’t enough to solve everything. He has to make difficult choices while Kayla struggles to trust the alien who claims she is his mate. Their connection also becomes tied to Blaze’s developing powers, leading to revelations about their bond and Kayla’s own transformation.
Highlights and Limitations
The alien zoo was my favorite part of the setup because it puts Kayla in a genuinely frightening situation. She’s not simply stranded on an unfamiliar planet. She’s being displayed for entertainment, with very little control over what happens to her. That makes Blaze’s efforts to reach her feel urgent, especially once the Master discovers his plan and Kayla’s life becomes a bargaining chip.
I also enjoyed Blaze’s single-minded determination. When he realizes Kayla is his mate, he doesn’t just accept that he might have to wait for another opportunity. He changes his assignment and goes after her. I liked seeing that fierce devotion develop into something more meaningful than his initial desire to find his mate and unlock his potential. His willingness to risk his own position to get Kayla out of the zoo gives his protective instincts real stakes.
The elemental mythology is another fun aspect. The Fireblood powers, the mystery surrounding the Master’s abilities, and the consequences of Blaze reaching his full potential give the romance a paranormal science-fiction twist. Kayla’s eventual transformation and acquisition of fire powers also add an interesting dimension to their future together.
My biggest reservation was the speed of the romance. The fated-mates connection is immediate, and at times I wanted more room for Kayla and Blaze to build trust through their conversations and choices. Kayla is desperate to escape, so her willingness to bargain with Blaze makes sense, but I would have liked more time exploring how she separates her feelings for him from the circumstances forcing them together.
I was also frustrated by the conflict over Kayla’s sister. Blaze’s decision not to tell Kayla that Khloe is safe creates a painful misunderstanding that could have been handled with more honesty. With everything Kayla has already lost control over, I understood why that omission hurt her. I wanted the resolution to give their communication a little more depth instead of letting the relationship drama feel rushed.
Narration
Lynn Devereux and Drake Edwards bring the audiobook to life with their respective performances. Devereux voices Kayla’s side of the story, while Edwards handles Blaze, giving listeners two perspectives on the danger, attraction, and growing emotional connection between them.
The dual-narrator approach suits this story because Kayla and Blaze approach their situation differently. Kayla is focused on survival and getting back to her sister, while Blaze is driven by his certainty that she is his mate. Having both characters represented by separate narrators helps distinguish their viewpoints and keeps the romantic tension moving.
The audiobook runs just under five hours, making it a fairly quick listen. That suits the fast-moving plot, although I occasionally wished the story had slowed down enough to let some emotional moments breathe.
Final Opinion
Inferno was an entertaining, steamy alien romance with a compelling rescue premise, a determined warrior, and an unusual setting. I enjoyed watching Blaze go from searching for the woman who could unlock his powers to realizing that Kayla herself matters more than what their bond might give him. The danger surrounding the zoo gave their relationship more urgency than a straightforward fated-mates romance would have had.
I would have preferred a slower emotional build and more thoughtful communication between the main characters, but the elemental powers, alien world, and high-stakes escape kept me interested. Readers who enjoy possessive alien warriors, instant attraction, fated mates, and plenty of heat will likely find something to enjoy here. For me, the premise and Blaze’s determination were the strongest parts, even if the romance could have used a little more breathing room.
