Main Characters and Plot Overview

By the time I reached Kyro, I already felt invested in the women rescued from Earth, so I was happy that Evren finally received her story. Unlike some of the others, Evren is quieter and still trying to figure out where she belongs on the rebel base. She throws herself into building a purpose for herself instead of waiting to be rescued again, which made her easy to root for. Her growing friendship with Kyro feels natural because they are both outsiders in different ways.

Kyro ended up being one of my favorite heroes in the series. He spends so much time hiding an enormous secret that he keeps everyone at arm’s length, even the rebels he fights beside. I liked watching his curiosity about Earth and his awkward attempts at humor, especially when he mixed up pop culture references. Those lighter moments balanced the danger surrounding him. As the story progresses, Evren realizes there is much more to Kyro than anyone suspects, and once his true nature is revealed, the stakes immediately become much higher. I especially enjoyed the scenes where he secretly watches over Evren and the later moment when he trusts her enough to reveal secret. That scene carried much more emotional weight than the romance alone.

Highlights and Limitations

What stood out most to me was how patient this romance was. Instead of instant declarations of love, both characters spend a long time convincing themselves that staying apart is the safest choice. Normally that kind of self denial can frustrate me, but here it worked because Kyro had a legitimate reason to fear that anyone close to him would become a target. When he finally explains everything instead of making decisions for Evren without her input, it felt like an earned turning point.

The action also kept me engaged. The attacks from the Tasqals, the uncertainty over who could be trusted, and the growing danger surrounding Kyro’s identity made this feel like more than just a romance. I also appreciated seeing familiar characters from earlier books continue to play meaningful roles instead of disappearing into the background.

One complaint would be the the fact that their relationship didn’t make sense at the beginning. While the other couples were making their way across the planet Muk, they became very close, all of them hooking up, aside from Xul and Athena who had gotten together even earlier on that when they first were on Muk. Though Evren and Kyro seemed almost like strangers at the beginning of this book which takes place after they had spent all that time together on Muk.

Narration

B.N. Love continues to deliver a consistent performance throughout the series. She captures Evren’s quieter personality without making her sound passive, and Kyro’s reserved nature comes across clearly even though he says less than many of the previous heroes. I especially enjoyed how she handled the awkward conversations between them because they sounded genuine rather than overly dramatic. During the action scenes she kept the pacing moving, while the emotional moments were given enough space to breathe.

Final Thoughts

Kyro ended up being one of my favorite installments in the Captured by Aliens series. The combination of a gentle, secretive hero and a thoughtful heroine made this romance feel different from the earlier books. I cared about both characters long before they admitted how they felt, and that made their eventual relationship much more satisfying. Between Kyro’s hidden identity, the continuing conflict with the Tasqals, and the emotional trust that slowly develops between the main couple, this audiobook kept my attention from beginning to end. I finished it excited to see where A. G. Wilde takes this universe next.
