Audiobook Review: Queen of The Reapers (Lovesick Villains, #2) by Jessa Halliwell. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Queen of The Reapers by Jessa Halliwell

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

All I ever wanted was to keep her safe. The last thing I expected was to fall for the bastards trying to hurt her.

The Reapers of Caspian Hills are powerful men. So powerful that when my idiotic stepfather offered them my little sister, I knew no one in their right mind would try to stop them. But I never claimed to be totally sane.

Offering myself in Alex’s place was borderline suicidal, but I strolled into the lion’s den anyway. While the brothers definitely lived up to their ruthless reputation, I discovered they had a weakness after all—me.

Belonging to these men put an immediate target on my back. Now that we’ve grown closer, every stranger I meet may be secretly out to get me. In this world filled with violence, deception, and cruelty, I’ve never felt more at home.

Our enemies may think I’m just an insignificant little pet to Atlas, Ezra, Tristan, and Cyrus, but they’ll soon find out… I am their Queen, and damn, was I born to wear this crown.

Author: Jessa Halliwell
Genre: Dark reverse harem romance
Narrator(s): Corvin King and Nikki Monroe

👫🏻 Character Background and Plot Dynamics

The previous book, Fear The Reapers, closed with Stevie finally finding a sense of belonging with Atlas, Ezra, Cyrus, and Tristan. She even agreed to spend time with Melanie, the woman Atlas had once been promised to in a political arrangement meant to prevent a cartel war. Stevie is confident that the Reapers are her future, and she is ready to invest in each of her relationships with them. At the same time, she refuses to abandon her sister Alex, no matter how complicated that choice becomes.

The men worry that Alex could become a dangerous liability, especially since an enemy already used her to get to Stevie. Their world is full of threats, and they have more enemies than they can track. Stevie refuses to let Alex be hidden away, so the men reluctantly agree to retrieve her. They warn Stevie that if anything goes wrong, the responsibility will fall on her for bringing Alex into their violent world. When they arrive at the motel where Alex has been staying, they discover she has disappeared without a trace.

The Reapers operate under a Russian crime syndicate known as The Organization, which is governed by a council and led on the west coast by a single figure. That leader was Oleg, a mentor who treated Atlas and his brothers like his own sons. After Oleg married, he gained a stepson named Dimitri. Dimitri arrives unexpectedly to inform the Reapers that Oleg has died and that the council has chosen him as the new head of operations. The council has always viewed the Reapers with suspicion because they are not Russian, and Dimitri’s appointment only deepens the tension and distrust.

🌟 Strengths

• The series continues to balance plot and spice in a satisfying way. The intimate scenes are present and enjoyable, yet the story never relies on them to carry the narrative.
• Dimitri’s history with the Reapers adds a sharp layer of tension that enriches the mystery and keeps the stakes high.
• Stevie’s devotion to her sister remains a powerful emotional anchor. Her willingness to walk away from the men she loves if it means protecting Alex gives the story a strong sense of heart and loyalty.

💔 Limitations

• Atlas’s engagement to Melanie played a major role in the first book and was presented as a crucial alliance with her father’s cartel. In this installment, the engagement is dismissed in a single line, and the men show no concern about the cartel’s reaction. This shift feels abrupt and inconsistent, especially since Atlas previously insisted that the alliance was necessary for his brothers’ safety.

🎙 Narration

The audiobook unfolds through multiple points of view and features dual narration by Nikki Monroe and Corvin King. Corvin King continues to excel with his deep, raspy delivery that suits dark romance perfectly. Nikki Monroe brings a youthful and expressive tone that captures Stevie’s vulnerability and inner conflict. Together, they elevate the emotional impact of the story and create a vivid, immersive listening experience.

💭 Final Assessment

This installment delivers tension, loyalty, and emotional conflict in a way that keeps the series engaging. The dynamic between Stevie and the Reapers remains compelling, and the introduction of Dimitri adds a fresh layer of danger. While the abrupt handling of the cartel storyline creates a noticeable gap in continuity, the strong character work and solid narration make this a satisfying continuation for fans of the series.
