Audiobook Review: The Promotion (Reverse Harem Romance, #3). ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Promotion by Mika Lane

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

To get my promotion, I needed a fiance or better, a husband. What I got was so much more.

This hot, over-the-top romance involves four hot alpha dudes and a strong woman who gives them a run for their money. If you love outrageously naughty stories as a way to indulge your wildest fantasies, then this is for you.

The heroine: Maizey – she works as a paralegal at a law firm and was hoping for a promotion, though her boss Eva thinks she makes a mess of everything she touches. Her boss used to treat her nice, but slowly as time went on, she began to insult Maizey and pick apart everything she did. She hated being vulnerable to the moods of someone who didn’t like her.

The Heroes: Cato – he works at the same law firm as Maizey and is one of the few people at the firm who treats her nicely. He has had a crush on her for a while. He hated his job but acted like the perfect employee.
Anson – Maizey’s bosses’ handsome brother-in-law. He wasn’t fond of attending his brother and sister-in-laws party. But Eva wanted him to meet someone.
Braden – he is a rock star who isn’t too fond of attorneys, but they are an occupational hazard in his industry. When his label optioned his music for a commercial, he shows up at the law office to start a lawsuit. He meets Maizey at the office. He is quite a cocky guy and a bit full of himself.
Von – he is a veterinarian who loves his job. So, when Maizey comes into his office with her hippy dippy sister sparkle and her pet rat, he is interested.

The Story: when Maizey is about a month away from her annual performance review, she is required to attend a dinner party for the firm at her boss’s home. Her boss tells her that none of the senior partners or their wives will talk with Maizey because she is young and beautiful, so if she wants to move up in the company, Maizey will need a fiancé or a husband, then she fixes her up with Anson and they hit it off from the start.

When Maizey meets Brade, she immediately thought he was a dick, but she helped him with his lawsuit and even told him how she used to be in a band when she was in college. He was impressed that she wasn’t only a buttoned-up lawyer type. He invites her to a private show at a little place in town. Though she didn’t really like him at first, she was impressed by his celebrity status and attended the show with her sister Sparkle.

Maizey was friends with Cato at the law office. They often went to lunch together. He had a lot of secrets about how he felt about his work. They loved him there at the firm, but he detested all of it and he looked forward to his lunches with Maizey. He was a former fat kid that now works out five days a week but didn’t think he could date someone at work.

Since Maizey had to find a fiancée for her job prospects to pan out, she joined a matchmaking service. The guys that were picked for her were like a list of the biggest losers in New York, so she asked for her money back and thought she would just find a man on her own, the three she had already were nice guys, so she would just try with them. Then she also meets the Vet when she helps her sister Sparkle with her sick pet rat Cher. Von asks her out right away.

I liked the characters in this book much more than those in the first two books in this series. Though like I said in the last review, I have a lot of trouble thinking that a woman dating four random guys would somehow pick four that would be ok with sharing her when they found out about each other. More likely they would each want to be the only one or would dump her for cheating even though they haven’t made any kind of commitment yet.

This audiobook was told in multiple points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Jillian Macie and Tristan James. I like Jillian’s voice quite a bit. She is great at showing emotion through her voice and is good at doing different voices for different characters. Tristan also has a great voice and is a good narrator. Though of course, I do like it when there are different narrators for each main character.
