Audiobook Review: Monstrous Power (Shadowblood Souls, #2). ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Monstrous Power by Eva Chase

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The truth has come to light…but can I ever trust my men again?

After weeks of cruel hostility, the guys I swore to save know how wrong they were—at least about what I did four years ago. Now that they’ve seen my horrifying new power, will they decide I’m an enemy after all?

With what they put me through, I’m not sure I even want to stick with them. These brutal men aren’t the boys I fell in love with anymore.

But nothing matters more than learning how to control my own vicious urges. So I’ll accept a tentative truce while we hunt down more answers…by turning to the very monsters our creator feared most.

The heroine: Riva – she and her shadowblood friends were born and raised in an institution. They were experimented on, tortured, and used by the guardians that were their prison guards. They were only let out to go on missions where they were required to use their shadowblood powers to do the bidding of the guardians. They once tried to escape and one of them was killed. Riva was sold to a fighting ring where she was forced to fight to the death once a week until four years later when she escaped and then she helped her friends escape.

The Heroes: Jacob, Zian, Andreas and Dominic – shadowbloods (hybrids of the shadowkind and humans).
Jacob – his talent is to catch a person with his power and force them to his will, in addition to a telekinetic ability. He is also able to shoot out spikes with poison.
Zian – his powers are keen hearing and ability to see through solid surfaces. He is a wolf shifter.
Andreas – he is able to retrieve memories from other people. He was able to get the codes to their cells out of the heads of guardians. He is also able to turn invisible.
Dominic – he is able to heal using power from other living things and he has tentacles coming out of his back.

The Story: The gang found the answers they were looking for, even if they were not the answers they wanted. They are finally back together and friends again and all their new powers have been revealed to each other, including the dark monstrous power that lives inside Riva. They are on the run from the guardians and others that may want them dead.

This book was as good, if not a bit better than the first one. The first book was mainly background information and setting up the storylines. The guys were still very much distrustful of Riva and though there was chemistry between them, there really wasn’t much romance or steam. This one was much steamier, and the romance was up quite a bit as well, since they now believe that she never betrayed them. I am liking the storylines, and the characters powers a lot more, though I must admit that I am not too fond of the tentacles on Dominic.

This audiobook was told in multiple points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Amber Lee Connors and Adam Gold. I really liked Amber Lee’s soft and feminine voice. It was age appropriate and perfect for Riva. Adam Gold has a deep voice and is able to do different voices for the different male characters.
