The heroine: Jane – she is a human with autism spectrum disorder (neurodiversity) and is a waitress at a small diner. She lost her parents at a young age and has a group of stalkers. She has never seen the stalkers, but they find her wherever she moves. They always leave her a note telling her to leave town or they will kill someone she loves. She ignored it the first time and a friend of hers was murdered and had her eyes removed.
The Hero: Vic, Theo, Paris, Sie and Korban – The Iron Incubi MC. They are supes (supernaturals), each of them is an Incubus, which are near the top of the supernatural food chain. They have a glamour and look human, but they look monstrous in their real forms, much larger with horns and a tail.
Vic – The president of the Iron Incubi, he comes from a long line of wealthy incubi. His mansion is the MC clubhouse.
Theo – He is the doctor of the MC. He is a nice guy who likes a bit of bondage.
Paris – He is a flirt and a playboy. He is possessive and intelligent. He could kill a room full of people without any trouble.
Sie – He is big and broody. He has a problem with feeding (including sex) lately and thinks he might be going feral.
Korban (a.k.a. Kor) – he is huge, muscular, mean and grumpy. He is a fighter and is Vic’s Lieutenant.
The Story: Jane has always moved from place to place whenever her stalkers get near, but this time she decides to try something different. She goes to a bar where the Iron Incubi MC hangs out and asks them to help her with the stalkers. She exchanges a necklace that she got from her mother and gets them to promise to help her.
I really liked this story; it was quite different than anything I read before. I liked the autism angle mostly because when I think of autism, I think of little kids with autism. This was a good look at an adult with ASD. She is actually pretty normal most of the time and can mask her symptoms for the most part when she is around other people. However, certain things set her off more than others, she rarely makes eye contact with people, and she has trouble with certain cues and always feels like she is different and separate from everyone else.
I also hadn’t read anything before about incubi. They were a different breed of supernatural than anything I had read about before. They feed off human women but, in this world, they have to follow the laws set by the fae. They can’t just feed from any women but have to sign three-year contracts with the women they feed from. They feed off the sexual energy of the females, so they have to have intimate contact with the woman to feed and the women get off on it like they are drugged. They get a high off of it and are dazed afterwards.
This audiobook was done in dual points of view via dual narration. It was narrated by Stephen Dexter and Lia Langola. These two narrators did a terrific job. Lia Langola has a youthful sounding voice that was perfect for Jane and Stephen Dexter is fantastic at doing different voices for different characters, so he was great for all the guys.
