Review: Uncivilized (Super Soldiers, #1). ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Uncivilized by Rebecca Royce

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I was tasked by my best friend to deliver a final message of goodbye to those he had once left behind. Despite my grief, I made it to a strange, dangerous planet with the letter ready for them to read and my promise fulfilled to my dead friend.
Having done what was asked of me, I expected to leave but, as my brother used to say, tell the universe your plans and watch it laugh at you.

Now I’m stuck on a planet for six weeks where the veneer of civilization is easily wiped away, with four former Super Soldiers who don’t know quite what to do with me, and more danger every time I turn around.

But there is something about them that calls to my soul, that makes me want to soothe them, and invites me to trust them in a way I never have anyone before. My life isn’t my own. I will have to go back to my own home and leave them behind, yet each day I know them the idea of doing that becomes even more unfathomable.

My name is Raven. I’m just a girl lost on a strange world surrounded by danger, wondering why a planet I never knew existed can suddenly feel like home.

Super Soldiers in space!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💙🖤💚❤️💜
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌍🌎
Character development: 😚😔🤓🥰

The heroine: Raven – she escaped her planet in the middle of the night on a journey to the edge of the galaxy to deliver a note from her dead best friend Amias. Her two best friends, Amias and her brother Stone were both dead and she had to fulfill Amias’ last wishes before she returned to her planet to help those she could. Her planet, like many others was taken over by Super Soldiers and a man named Clarke owned everyone on the planet, including her. He owns her body and gives it out as he sees fit.

The Heroes: Ransom, Crew, Gunner and Mace – They were known as The Five, though one of them is now dead. They are ‘Enhanced’, Super Soldiers. Amias was one of them, but left them years ago, only leaving a note saying that he would never return. They always thought Amias would return. They lived on their planet in peace, protecting the humans and the humans on the planet taught the soldiers things they needed to know.

The Story: Raven delivers the note to the men and is ready to return to her planet, but the shuttle pilot who landed her there lied to her. The rains came as soon as they landed, with the rains comes electricity in the atmosphere at this time of year and it lasts six weeks. It is what they call the quiet time on the planet since nothing can land or take off. Raven is stuck there for the next six weeks.

The Super Soldier back story is a pretty good one. Apparently, they were created by a large corporation to be used in a fight against Earth. However, they lost the war, due to the fact that the people of Earth were so fierce, but also because Earth had sent out some message that caused some of the Super Soldiers to switch sides. Others weren’t affected by the message, and after they lost the war they were going to be destroyed until most of them escaped and went to little known and barely populated planets. Some, like the five and many that settled with them on their world, did so in peace with the humans on the planet. Though some, like Clarke thought they were better than humans and subjugated the planets they went to.

The one thing I didn’t like about this book was that I kind of wanted all the Super Soldiers to be good. But from the beginning I could tell there would be some sort of battle between the good Super Soldiers and some bad ones. So, our Heroes enhancements wouldn’t give them any edge since they were up against others with enhancements. Though overall, I really liked this story, it was different and interesting, as well as quite steamy. I wish there were more books in this series, but for now there is only one more and it hasn’t been released yet. Hopefully Rebecca Royce will keep adding to the series.

Special thanks to Cintia for the recommendation of this book.
