The Trade by Meghan Quinn
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Can you pinpoint a time in your life where you realized you are completely and utterly screwed?
The Trade
I can. I got the dreaded phone call, the one every baseball player hopes and prays never comes.
I was traded. Yeah, that phone call.
Traded from my long time team of over ten years. And not just to any team, but my childhood rivals; the Chicago Rebels.
Completely and utterly screwed, right? Wrong. The trade was the least of my concerns.
I met a girl. Natalie. Man, she’s perfect.
I swore I would never get involved with anyone during the season. Too complicated. But can you believe I have zero restraint when it comes to this girl? I couldn’t get her out of my head and the more I talked to her, the more I realized I needed her in my life.
So what’s the problem? Why am I screwed? Because, Natalie, the girl I can’t stop crushing on, yeah . . . she’s married.
At least, that’s what I was told . . .
Good, but a bit too much of a slow burn for me!

The Hero: Cory – The team he had been playing for his entire career up and traded him to get rid of his hefty salary and start developing up and comers. Not only did they trade him mid-season, but they also traded him to the Chicago Rebels, the team he grew up hating. He had to pack up everything and move to Chicago. He wasn’t happy about it, especially after he was booed by the Chicago fans. Adding insult to injury, his sister gave him ‘the talk’ about the fact that he hasn’t been in a relationship.
The heroine: Natalie – she has a brother, Joseph with cerebral palsy. She attended a charity event with him and stayed by his side throughout the entire event. She was dedicated to her family and loved her brother. She is also sister to Cory’s teammate Jason, and she runs his charity foundation.
The Story: Cory attended the same charity event and couldn’t take his eyes off Natalie and knew right away that she was the one. Until his sister told him that she was married and off the market, she had even met the husband. Cory was crushing on a married woman and his life officially was at its lowest point.
The story was good, though I have a problem sometimes with romance books when the main characters seem to put too many obstacles in their own way to becoming intimate with each other. I mean these two characters were so attracted to each other and once the first obstacle about Cory thinking Natalie was married is out of the way and he finds out she is divorced, they immediately decide to just be friends. I just don’t get it.
Granted I know they each had their reasons. Natalie said she wants a fling, though Cory knows he wants more so he decides to protect his heart. Though Natalie doesn’t understand and sees him as running hot and cold with her. I personally just wanted them to get to it and each night of the week they slept in the same room together with all that sexual tension, I was disappointed.
This audiobook was done in dual points of view via dual narration. It was narrated by Kelsey Navarro and Connor Crais. I really like Connor Crais’ voice. It is deep yet soft and very sexy. He is great at showing emotion through his voice. Kelsey Navarro is also very good and has a great voice. Overall, I really liked the narration on both parts.
