Audiobook Review: Down and Dirty (Italian Stallions, #1) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Down and Dirty by Mari Carr

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

What happens when a down-on-her-luck single mom meets not one, but two sexy saviors? Roommates with twice the benefits.

Jess has one goal in life—protect her son. But when an overcrowded shelter puts her and Jasper out on the street in the dead of winter, she fears she’s going to fail that mission. Help comes in the form of confirmed bachelors, Tony Moretti and Dr. Rhys Beaumont.

Tony and Rhys share the same motto—work hard, play harder. But when fate drops a homeless waitress and her young son on their doorstep, their wild and free lifestyle takes a sharp turn. Their desire to help her is only surpassed by their desire to claim her, share her, make her theirs.

When Tony and Rhys offer Jess a place to stay and security, there’s no denying the chemistry between the three of them. All she has to do is let them in. But Jess isn’t willing to get hurt again . . . no matter how persuasive, how determined, how deliciously possessive her new roommates are.

The heroine: Jess – her life has gone steadily downhill over the past seven months, leaving her homeless along with her young son Jasper. She lives in Philadelphia and had overstayed her welcome at all of her friends’ homes. She spent one night in a shelter in a bad neighborhood and will never do so again, so when the more decent shelters are full, she ends up spending a long cold night in her car.

The Heroes: Tony and Rhys – They are roommates and friends, who co-own a building where they live, and both have offices. They are both bachelors who are married to their work. Rhys is a doctor and Tony owns a contracting business. They often eat at the Diner where Jess works and sit in her section, so when they see her and her son nearly freezing in her car, they take her in.

The Story: Though Jess doesn’t want to ask for help, Rhys and Tony don’t take no for an answer and let her and her son stay at their place. They both work a lot and haven’t really thought about marriage or children, but they are both attracted to Jess and like her son quite a bit. He is young but very polite and Jess is a great mom.

Jess is a good judge of character, and the guys have an extra room with its own bathroom, and after a bad experience at her motel cleaning job, it doesn’t take too much for her to agree to stay with them. Plus, she doesn’t have a lot of options, other than to try for the shelters, which fill up pretty quickly every night. She is trying to keep her two jobs and just lost her babysitter as well.

The story is good, and I like the fact that a single mother who only has herself to rely on gets some nice wealthy hard-working guys to help her out and take care of her. As a single mother, I know how it is to have to rely only on yourself when you are responsible for others. Sometimes it would be so nice to have someone else to lean on.

This audiobook was told in dual points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Marina Barrett and Oliver Highpoint. Marina has a clear voice and does a good job. Oliver has a nice voice and uses different voices for Tony and Rhys.
