Review: Kidnapped by the Vampire (Devil Springs, #1), ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Kidnapped by the Vampire by C.C. Wood

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

When my great-aunt died, she left me her home and business in Devil Springs. The last thing I expected when I came to sell them was to meet an actual vampire–who happened to be the most beautiful man I’ve ever seen.

Or that he would kidnap me.

At first, I was desperate to escape but, the longer I was the vampire’s hostage, the less he seemed like a villain. Especially when he made sure I had anything and everything I needed and protected me from anyone who tried to hurt me. Even when I was doing my best to be the most annoying kidnapee on the planet.

The mouthier I became, the more he seemed to like it. He absolutely shouldn’t be boyfriend material, but the longer I was stuck living with him, the more I wanted exactly that.

But there are secrets in the town of Devil Springs and some supernatural residents aren’t as excited to have a human in their midst. In fact, one of them seems to want me gone…permanently

Kidnapped by the Vampire

A town of supernaturals!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💙🖤💜❤️💖
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌍🌎
Character development: 🤨😟😳😍

The heroine: Cari – her favorite and only great aunt Bethany died. Bethany was the Grandmother she never had. The sister to her real grandmother who died before she was born. Cari hadn’t seen her much in the years since she went away to college and her aunt moved to the town of Devil Springs and opened a grocery store, but they were still close. Bethany left Cari her store and her home and Bethany came to Devil Springs after the funeral, where she comes face to face with a Vampire named Daniel.

The Heroes: Daniel – Devil Springs is a town of supernatural’s and Daniel is the mayor. His friend, a wolf shifter named Garrett is the chief of police. Daniel’s main goal is to keep humans from finding out about the supernatural beings in his town.

The Story: When Cari mistakenly misleads Daniel into thinking that she knows about the supernatural, then immediately passing out after seeing his fangs, Daniel knows he has to remove her memories of what she saw. The only problem is that a witch named Bernie (her great aunt’s boyfriend), put a protection spell on her and Bernie left for a week to spread Bethany’s ashes. So he kidnaps Cari and has to keep her captive with him until Bernie can remove the protection spell and Daniel can make her forget she knows about the supernaturals in town.

“How can you not understand why I can’t let you leave? I’m responsible for every soul in this valley. If you leave here and tell anyone, we could end up with tanks rolling down Main Street and most of us either dead or caged and experimented on like animals. And it would be my fault for letting you go. Their lives, their blood, would be on my hands. I have a responsibility to all of these people. For their safety. Including your uncle!”

The story was good and I really like this whimsical supernatural town and all its people. Though I would definitely be asking more questions about everything supernatural if I were Cari. Daniel did say it was not good to ask people what kind of being they are, but I certainly would have been asking Daniel everything about Vampires and what each of the townspeople are.

I have read a few books like this before where there is a town full of different kinds of supernaturals and I really enjoy that trope. This one had a really good story and I can’t wait for the next book in this series. The only real criticism I have is that the story was told entirely from Cari’s point of view. I like it when romance books are told in dual points of view so we get to see the Heroes thoughts as well as the heroines.
