Audiobook Review: Hate (Her Monsters, #2). ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Hate by K.A. Knight

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I was abducted.

They took me from my mates and threw me into a cell with a monster.

But they should have known I’m the biggest monster of them all.

With more and more females disappearing, I need to find out who is really behind all the kidnappings and experiments. But what I discover will test my mates and me…and from the betrayal…hate will bloom.

I have new allies, new enemies, and a whole lot of bodies piling up.

Are you scared of me? You should be.

Hate

A bit too smutty for my tastes!

Character development: 😉☺️😟😤

Narration Type: Dual Narration

The heroine: Dawn – she was a normal human woman, who was abused and enslaved by her husband and eventually killed by him. She woke up buried underground and now she is something else. She is a very powerful supernatural and only wanted revenge against her husband, though in getting that revenge, she discovered that there is a group of supernaturals that are capturing and doing something with supernatural females of all kinds. Dawn and the two mates she knew about (Nos and Griffin) were trying to find out more about this group and shut them down.

The Heroes:
Nos – he is an ancient go of lust, fertility, animals and the underworld. Until he felt the call of his mate, he lived in his forest and all he wanted was to be left alone. He felt he was always searching for something, and that itch finally went away when he met Dawn.
Dume – he is a minotaur shifter. He actually had three shifts, but witches put a spell on him, and he lost one of his forms. They kept him chained up in the labyrinth and he broke free when he felt his mate call him. He has been fighting the witches and the council hunters since he broke free and has been trying to get to Dawn since then.
Aska – he is a dragon shifter and the only one of his kind. He doesn’t breathe fire, but breathes darkness or something like that. He woke from his slumber when he felt the call from his mate and has been trying to get to her since then but keeps getting waylaid by hunters.
Griffin – he is a nephilim (half angel, half human). Nephilim were bred to be killers and assassins and were seen as abominations, so were given a choice to die or to be slaves of the council (their assassin force). Griffin thought he would never have a mate, so even though he was called to Dawn, he denied that he wanted or needed a mate.

The Story: The last book ended on a cliffhanger, and at the time Dawn only knew for certain that she had two mates, Nos and Griffin. Nos has been there for Dawn since he helped dig her out of her grave in his forest and plans to be with her forever. Griffin is finally coming to terms with having a mate. Dawn has had shared dreams with Aska but hasn’t yet met him in person and I am not sure she even knows he is real. Dume has been struggling to get to Dawn, but they have yet to meet by the end of the last book.

One thing I didn’t really like was that Dawn got more mates in this book. I know it explained why she might need multiple mates in the first book, but I don’t really like the addition of new love interests after so much effort was put into getting to know each of her four guys in the first book. One of her new mates was a vampire. that she names Ja’ir, who was locked up in the council dungeon with her, Griffin and Dume. Another is Lucifer who is one of the sleeping council. The last is a huge wolf shifter. There were just too many mates and too many intimate scenes. I like more story, less smut. The first book had a better balance.

This audiobook was told in dual points of view via dual narration. It was narrated by Celestine Wolfe and Jason Clarke. Jason has a terrific voice and is great at doing different voices for different characters, and Celestine has a pleasing voice. They do a great job and I really enjoyed the narration in both books.
