Audiobook Review: Savage Fae (Ruthless Boys of the Zodiac, #2). ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Savage Fae by Caroline Peckham

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

There’s more to my brother’s murder than I realised…

Shadows in the halls, mysteries lurking around every corner.

Whoever killed him is covering their tracks well.

And now I’m walking a dangerous line between getting close to the four kings for information and wanting to crawl deeper under their skin for my own desires.

I can’t trust anyone.

I can’t let my guard down.

And I must keep the urges of my body separate from my heart.

But I’m starting to break all of my own rules.

I just hope I’m not falling for my brother’s killer.

Savage Fae

Great characters and a terrific mystery!

The heroine: Elise Callisto – Elise is a vampire with the elemental power of the air. She is a strong female character and takes charge of her own life. She is also great at computer hacking and was able to hack herself into a place at Aurora Academy so she can find out who killed her beloved older brother Gareth, who went to the academy and died recently of a drug overdose. Elise doesn’t believe he did drugs so is sure he was murdered.

The Heroes: Gabriel Nox – he is a harpy with two elemental powers, he knows that Elise is his elysian mate (fated mate). He doesn’t remember anything before his 5th birthday and his adopted parents were told to keep him hidden, but he is now well known at Aurora Academy because of his power.
Dante Oscura – he is a rare dragon shifter, born to a pack of werewolves. He is also the head of the Oscura clan in Solaria, one of the two rival gangs. Though since he is at Aurora Academy, his uncle has taken the reigns of the gang. Dante is the head of the clan at the academy. He breathes electricity in his dragon form.
Leon Night – he is a nemean lion shifter, who is the head of the pride at the academy. He is a ladies’ man who always has women doing things for him because of his animal magnetism. He calls them all ‘Mindy’. Elise is not affected like the other girls, and he finally figured out he doesn’t want girls who will do anything for him.
Ryder Draconis – He is a basilisk shifter, and the head of the Lunar brotherhood gang at the academy. He is tough as nails and thrives on pain. He wants Elise to join his gang and be his.

The Story: Elise finds out much more about what her brother was doing when he was at Aurora Academy and not all of it is good. As she finds out more, it just brings up more questions as to his motives and why he would do the things he did. Some of the things Gareth was doing also bring suspicion onto the four kings that Elise is attracted to, and she doesn’t want it to be one of her guys.

Meanwhile each of the kings has their own secrets and had quite different interactions with Gareth while he was alive. He was best friends with Leon, but he also stole something important from Leon. He worked for both Dante and Rider though neither of them could know he was working for the other. And he discovered some things Gabriel kept hidden and was extorting money from Gabriel. Plus there were other factors that might have led to Gareth’s death, like the black card, the secret organization (cult) at the school that is using very dark magic for terrible things.

This series has some pretty long books & audiobooks. It is five books and all of them are between 500 and 700 pages each, with the audiobooks running from 14 hours to 29 hours for each book. So quite a bit happens in each book, but there are also a lot of lulls where it is just normal days at school and romance between Elise and each of her guys. The steamy scenes don’t overwhelm the book, which is nice since they exist, but it isn’t like some books where it is every other minute, which I like. I love that even though it is taking a while for Elise to get her answers, that things are continually happening.

The audiobook was told in multiple points of view via dual narration. It was narrated by Troy Duran and Kiera Stevens. Kiera is great at showing her emotions through her voice and has a very pleasant voice which matches Elise very nicely. Troy Duran has a deep, sexy voice and is one of my top male narrators and he always does a terrific job.
