Blood Heart by Lexi C. Foss
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
An immortal war is brewing, and she’s the key. . .
Blood Heart
Lizzie is left picking up the pieces after the death of her oldest friend. Something about his murder doesn’t feel right, and she’s determined to get to the bottom of it. Even if it means betraying those she loves most.
A web of lies isn’t sustainable forever.
Jayson’s latest assignment lands him in the middle of a war zone, guarding a spoiled princess who thinks she’s running the show. Little does she know, he has all the answers she’s been searching for, and more.
Trust is overrated.
When two hearts collide, the wall between reality and fantasy crumbles, leaving Lizzie more alone than she ever was before.
And sometimes love isn’t enough. . .
“Vampires are real, and they’re called Ichorians!”

Narration Type: Dual Narration
The heroine: Lizzie (a.k.a. Test subject 47) – She may be related to Tom from Forbidden Bonds and she is an unknowing test subject of Jonathan’s and the CRF under the project name “rebirth”. She is some sort of supernatural being but doesn’t know it. She has parents whom she thinks are her real parents but she doesn’t share any DNA with them and she may still get monthly medical treatments to stay alive.
The Hero: Jayson – an elder Hydrarian, treated as royalty among the Hydrarians. He can control metal and can alter visual perception and memory. That is why nobody can ever remember what he looks like, making him the perfect spy. He is thousands of years old and is in charge of protecting Lizzie who is in danger from Jonathan and the CRF, but can’t be extracted until they know more about her and whether she needs medication or treatments to keep her alive.
The Story: Jayson moves into Lizzie’s building in the condo above hers. All he knows about his assignment is that he has to stay close to her, keep her safe and learn more about her. The two of them are attracted to each other from the start. Lizzie has been lonely since her best guy friend recently died and her girlfriend, Stas has been hanging with her boyfriend nearly all the time. So when Jayson wants to hang out she figures she might as well.
This book was the best so far in both the romance and the side storyline. I also loved the fact that they had to explain the whole supernatural world to Lizzie and I finally really got a good idea of the different supernatural types and how everything worked. That Ichorians are like vampires and each has a gift or a power, Hydrarians are the progeny of Ichorians (though they don’t drink blood) and they get two gifts, one from each parent. Also the fact that the blood of a Hydrarian can kill an Ichorian so they are bitter enemies. New York is the home of the Ichorians so Hydrarians can’t go there, and live on the greek island of Hydria for the most part.
There are also the sentinels who are a military force of the CRF. And there are assassins whom are Ichorian and work for Osiris and they search for and execute fledglings (Hydrarians that haven’t yet died and become immortal). There is a ton of chemistry between Jayson and Lizzie and the book gets pretty steamy in parts. This was definitely the best book of the series so far.
This book was told in dual points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Sara Puckett and Troy Duran. Troy is my all time favorite male narrator for romance books. He has a deep sexy voice and has a pretty good female voice as well since this is done in dual narration. Sara Puckett has a soft feminine voice which is very nice.
