The Hook Up by Kristen Callihan
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
The rules: no kissing on the mouth, no staying the night, no telling anyone, and above all… No falling in love
The Hook Up
Anna Jones just wants to finish college and figure out her life. Falling for star quarterback Drew Baylor is certainly not on her to do list. Confident and charming, he lives in the limelight and is way too gorgeous for his own good. If only she could ignore his heated stares and stop thinking about doing hot and dirty things with him. Easy, right?
Too bad he’s committed to making her break every rule…
Football has been good to Drew. It’s given him recognition, two National Championships, and the Heisman. But what he really craves is sexy yet prickly Anna Jones. Her cutting humor and blatant disregard for his fame turns him on like nothing else. But there’s one problem: she’s shut him down. Completely.
That is until a chance encounter leads to the hottest sex of their lives, along with the possibility of something great. Unfortunately, Anna wants it to remain a hook up. Now it’s up to Drew to tempt her with more: more sex, more satisfaction, more time with him. Until she’s truly hooked. It’s a good thing Drew knows all about winning.
All’s fair in love and football…Game on

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💚🖤💙❤️
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘
World building: 🌏🌍🌎
Character development: ☺️😮🙂
Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Dual Narration
The heroine: Anna Jones – Late to school on the first day of her senior year of college, Anna sits next to a gorgeous guy who looks a bit familiar. She realizes he is the star quarterback of the football team and she has no interest in getting to know him, especially after he calls her ‘Big Red’.
The Hero: Drew Baylor – he became aware of Anna as soon as she said her name and stupidly ruined things when he first spoke to her. Though he knew she was special to him from the start. He silently pined for her every day in class as they sat side by side.
The Story: Anna was chubby as a kid and though she has lost the baby fat, she is still a bit touchy about how she was teased while growing up. She is happy with herself now, but she doesn’t want to get involved with the handsome, muscular athlete, no matter how attractive she finds him.
So when Drew persists in trying to talk to Anna, she just doesn’t understand why. Especially since he has all the cleat chasers wanting him. So she continues to turn him down, though he calls her on the fact that she looks at him as much as he looks at her. They hook up and it was life changing to Drew, but Anna runs away. The chemistry between them is crazy hot.
Anna has low self esteem and suffers too much doubt and insecurity to date a guy like Drew. She doesn’t like the notoriety she would get as his girlfriend and the criticism it would bring, she figures it won’t take long before he starts questioning why he would want to be with her. Frankly I don’t really like a heroine with such anxiety about her own worth. Though the story did get better as it went. I wouldn’t call it great, but it was good.
This was told in dual points of view via dual narration. It was narrated by Maxine Mitchell and Teddy Hamilton. Maxine has a strong clear voice which is very pleasant and she is great at showing emotion and anxiety through her voice. Teddy is one of my favorite male narrators and has a deep sexy voice which is pretty much ageless. He could be 21 or 51 years old and sounds great as just about any romantic hero.
