Audiobook Review: The Overlord’s Pet (Alien Mate Index, #5). ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Overlord’s Pet by Evangeline Anderson

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I never wanted to be a pet—especially not the pet of an arrogant, Alien Overlord. Now I’m stuck on his spaceship, learning to walk on a leash and eating a disgusting concoction called “human chow.” Also, Sir demands that I go through “training” of the extra-spicy variety in order to display “proper pet behavior” whatever that means. Will I ever get back to Earth? You’ll have to read The Overlord’s Pet to find out.

When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up? An astronaut? A ballerina? A scientist? Whatever it was, I bet it wasn’t a pet. Specifically the pet of a huge, muscular, arrogant Alien Overlord.

I never wanted to be a pet either, but that seems to be my fate. I was sucked through the bathroom mirror at my Great Aunt’s house by these little blue guys called “Commercians” who run a service called The Alien Mate Index. They sold me to a huge alien with horns and a tail who told me I may call him “Master” or “Sir.” He made me wear a collar and taught me to walk on leash and even tried to get me to eat “human chow!” But don’t worry—he’s not one of those crazy owners who forces their pet to wear clothing. No—Sir thinks that clothes on a pet look “ridiculous” so guess who gets to run around his spaceship bare-ass naked all day? I’ll give you two guesses and both of them are “me.”

This isn’t a fate I chose and I’m determined to escape from Sir and find my way back to Earth. But things start getting sticky when he claims that he bought me for a purpose much larger than the two of us. Does the fate of my galaxy really rest on my shoulders? And why does it require so much extra “training” of the spicy variety? Will I ever get back to my own planet and eat a cheeseburger instead of that disgusting human chow?

Narration Type: Dual Narration

The Hero: Sir – The lord of the realm on Korrigon Four. He is ten feet tall, muscular and imposing. According to the Korrigons, their planet is the most advanced in the galaxy, they consider all other beings whether sentient or not, as animals. He goes to the alien mate index, not for a mate but for a pet from the primitive planet Earth. He needs the pet, not for sexual purposes, but as a companion and to prove a point about the planet Earth and save the planet from the predatory plans of his rival, the overlord of the southern continent.

The heroine: Ellie (a.k.a. Little One) – She has a masters degree in library science. Though there were cutbacks and she was barely able to make ends meet. Ellie was at her aunts house helping with her aunts dogs, when she looked into a mirror and she was sucked through a portal. Kidnapped by Aliens and sold by the Alien Mate Index to be the pet of an alien overlord.

The Story: Ellie is disturbed by her new position, especially after she is put in a crate in the room of the overlord on the ship taking them back to Korrigon Four. She is able to get out of the crate and she has a pretty good disposition despite her predicament. Sir is a weird one, for someone who is supposedly from such an advanced species, he was pretty dumb about other sentient species. He was surprised that Ellie is able to use a bathroom and he has to bathe her because no pet he ever heard of likes to take a bath and she might miss some areas if he left her to do it.

I was a bit unsure when I picked this one up. I loved the first four books in this series, they are all pretty long, but had terrific storylines and characters. I gave most of them five stars. I noticed this one had more BDSM themes, which I usually like, but the whole ‘Pet’ thing puts me on edge. I keep wanting the pet to bite the master in the junk and put him in his place.

This one wasn’t so bad, Sir was pretty nice, if stupid when in came to other sentient species. Though if I were Ellie, I wouldn’t stop asking for clothes until I bothered him so much he gave in. Plus I think it is so stupid for Ellie to plan to escape at her first opportunity. She knows nothing of other species in the universe and my first thought would be that I would end up in a much worse position than I was already in. Ultimately that is what always happens in these types of books.

This book was told in dual points of view via dual narration and was narrated by William Martin and Mackenzie Cartwright. Mackenzie has an intelligent sounding feminine voice which is very pleasant. Willian Martin has a deep voice and he did Sir’s thoughts in a whisper which I really liked. The story was really good for the most part, but there were some parts that were a bit too crazy to be believed. Like semen that tastes like salted caramel and the fact that Sir has a tail (Candalla) with its own brain and that he talks to it like it is a separate being. Though it isn’t described as having ears or eyes, it can apparently hear and understand what Sir tells it. Oh, and the tail is a separate sex organ as well.
