Act of Mercy by Mandy M. Roth
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Paranormal Security and Intelligence Operative Duke Marlow has a new mission: find, interrogate and possibly eliminate the target – Mercy Deluca. He knows looks can be deceiving, but it’s hard to believe the beautifully quirky woman running around in a superhero t-shirt is a viable threat. The sexy little biomedical engineer quickly proves she is more than he bargained for and Intel has it all wrong – she’s not the enemy. Far from it. Intel also forgot to mention one vital piece of information – she’s Duke’s mate. This immortal alpha werewolf doesn’t take kindly to her being in danger.
Act of Mercy
…
When Mercy accepted a position within Donavon Dynamics Corporation, she thought it was to help cure disease and to make a difference for mankind. She had no idea what her new career path truly entailed – monsters masquerading under the guise of scientific research. Unable to stomach the atrocities she’s uncovered, she reaches out through what she hopes is the proper channels, asking for help. Mercy gets more than she bargained for when a team of paranormal hotties show up on her doorstep ready to take down the Corporation. One in particular is able to get under her skin, both aggravating and exciting her in ways she can’t explain.

Character development: 😠😘🤓😉
The heroine: Mercy Deluca – she is a biomedical engineer for Donavon Dynamics Corporation. She grew up in foster homes and thought she would be helping people but instead found out she was working for cruel men and women who used their position to experiment on others. They barbarically tortured and committed other atrocities in the name of research.
The Hero: Duke Marlow – An alpha werewolf and a Paranormal Security and Intelligence Operative, Duke is a grumpy male with a reluctance to accept change. He typed with two fingers and couldn’t for the life of him, figure out the phone system in the office. His boss also keeps extra cell phones in his office for when Duke loses his temper.
The Story: When a woman kept calling the office and finally said she might be in danger before hanging up, Duke was unsure of what to do since he had no clue how calls were routed or how to find the woman that called. Though he felt something about the woman that he couldn’t define.
Mercy knew that the corporation she worked for was doing shady business and she wants to help the men that are being experimented on so much that they eventually died. She does her best to help them without getting caught herself, but is very worried every time she comes and go from her office, just waiting to get pulled aside and killed.
Duke is grumpy, growly and easy to anger. He is so cute in his grumpiness that you can’t help but like him. Mercy is small, geeky and cute in her naivety. They make a great pair and are both so interesting. The book is told in dual points of view via solo narration. The narration is done by Mason Lloyd who does a great job and is easy to listen to. I really liked the story and the romance.
