The heroine: Annika Volkov – she is the daughter of Adrian Volkov and Lia Morelli and was born into the Bratva mafia. Her brother Jeremy will one day take over for their father and Annika knows that women in the mafia are used to make alliances through arranged marriages so she know that will most likely be her fate one day. Meanwhile she is attending Royal Elite University as an art student. Her brother goes to the nearby Kings U and is very protective of her.

The Hero: Creighton King – He is the adopted son of British powerhouses Aiden King and Elsa Steel. He loves his family but feels that something is missing in him. It happened when he was three years old and saw his parents massacred in front of him. He has deviant tastes and dark desires. He rarely speaks and is determined to find out what happened to his biological family.

The Story: Annika is like a tiny ray of sunshine around campus. She is talkative, bright and nice to everyone. Though she hides behind her bright sunny nature, she has OCD and yearns to live life on her own terms. She hangs around with a group of the elites of Royal Elite, The sons and daughters of Levi and Aiden King, Xander Knight, Ronan Astor, and Cole Nash. She loses interest in most people once she gets to know them, but Creighton King is a different story, he fascinates and scares her.

I won’t go any further into the story, but to say that Rina Kent is a master at getting you interested in dark and mysterious characters from the first words of her books. I get drawn into her stories from the first words and can’t wait to find out what these people will do. Creighton was a great anti-hero and is my new favorite book boyfriend! Annika was lovable and it was easy to empathize with her throughout the story.

There is a ton of chemistry between Creighton and Annika and though they are opposites, they are both interesting in their own way. Him for being the bad boy he is with a dark and mysterious past and her for being multi-faceted and hiding things behind such a cheerful disposition. I wanted to know everything about what these two had beneath the surface from the very start.

The world building is terrific and I just love this world. I thought I liked the world of Royal Elite School when Aiden King was there, but this world of Royal Elite University and Kings U is even better. This second generation of kids are exactly everything I love about dark romance. So many of them are psychopaths and sociopaths and every one of the guys is a god in his own right. I can’t wait to read about every single one of them.
