Romance: 💚🖤💙❤️💜
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌍🌏
Character development: 🥲😳😋😙
The heroine: Diana (a.k.a. Spitfire) – She grew up like the girl in the movie ‘Hanna’, with a father that didn’t trust anyone and no money, she was trained to hunt and to protect herself. Until she was a young teen when she was taken from her father and sent to live with her aunt who was a grifter and a con woman. With that background she knew immediately when she was abducted by aliens, that all she had to do was bide her time and wait until she had a chance to escape.
The Hero: Mirak (a.k.a. Fourth) – one of the Crimson force (so named due to the bloody history), he was made by the Zorahn scientists and was one of the first Draekons. The scientists had control of the Crimson Force through “The Rather” which is a parasite inside them that causes constant pain and with certain enhancing drugs can be made even worse. They were made to help the Zorahn conquer the galaxies. However, they were put into cryo-stasis and taken, then their ship crash landed on a deserted planet and they were not found for over 1000 years. Now all of them except for ‘First’ are on the side of the Rebels. The First is out to kill all Draekons.
The Story: Diana got her chance to escape when space pirates attacked the ship she was on. Now she is the second in command of the Pirates, and quite good at her job. Her captain has some sort of degenerative disease and is getting worse as the days go on. Diana works as a spy the rebel forces and she gets into some pretty dangerous situations.
Like his brothers, Mirak was charged with finding some of the human women who were abducted and rescuing them. He finally tracks down Diana only to find that she doesn’t need his help. Though he knows early on that she is his mate.
These two characters were very likable. Mirak was cocky and had a reason to be. Diana was intelligent, fearless and strong. She takes everything in stride and does what she has to do to survive and goes after what she wants. The intimate scenes were pretty steamy and the story was good.
The book was told in both Diana’s and Mirak’s points of view using dual narration. This book was narrated by Natasha Lawless and Jasper Woodcock. I really like Natasha’s voice. It is different, not really soft but not hard and clear either. It had a quality I really liked and she was good at sounding relaxed and sexy in the intimate scenes. Jasper has a deep voice and speaks in a good tempo for an alien romance. This was very nice to listen to via audiobook.
