My Alien Manumitter by Isla Noir
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
MANUMITTER
n. Someone who frees others from slavery or bondage.
REID
If being my wife was something galactic women could apply for, they’d happily die for the opportunity.
I am a Lyran Metamorph god. I am the God of Night.
Shockingly, this human female only wants to return to Earth.
I fear she will not pass the three challenges to become my wife.
I must woo her and inspire her.
This human must succeed.
If she fails, we both die.
Our destinies are intertwined.
We must be victorious.
IS THIS HUMAN FEMALE STRONG ENOUGH TO PASS THE LYRAN CHALLENGES?
LIBBY
I was abducted while walking home from work in Michigan.
Sold and then sold again to a galactic zoo.
Rescued by a Lyran Metamorph.
My manumitter says I’m his wife, almost.
He says if I return to Lyra Prime and marry him, he will set me free.
The more I know of him, the more I fall in love with him,
and the more I question my own reality.
This seems too good to be true.
IS IT POSSIBLE TO LOVE AN ALIEN?

The heroine: Libby – she is rescued from an alien zoo where she was locked in a cage as one of the zoo animals. She has PTSD and is working with a doctor who works for the empire. The Doctor is devious and is planning on selling her as a breeding slave.
The Heroes: Commander Reid – He is a ship commander of the Galactic and he is a manumitter which is someone who frees slaves. He is also a Lyran Metamorph and a God in his own right. Though he refuses to use his Godly powers except in cases of emergency. He has issues with finding Libby due to his past.
The Story: Commander Reid saves Libby from the Zoo, and is her manumitter, which means he is a sort of guardian to her and in charge of her wellbeing. He has to continue his mission and go after the aliens who stole her and the others off their planet and sold them to the zoo, so he has left her with the imperial doctor for a week while he rounds up the slavers. Though Reid knows that Libby is a potential mate to him.
“I turn to my opponent…who has furthered my splitting headache and who wants to pretend we all still own swords. I live in this century and I don’t own a sword!”
After Reid finds Libby she begins to change into a Lyran Metamorph and a Goddess. There is some curse that Reid has and some trials Libby has to go through to prove she can be his mate and that her body and mind can handle the knowledge of the universe that a Goddess will have within her. There have been four potential mates in the past and when they failed the trials, Reid had to put them to death because failing means their minds can’t handle it and they would go mad.
The book was told in dual points of view and was narrated by Jack Calihan and Jill Smith in dual narration. Jack and Jill (ha!) both have very pleasant voices which worked well for the characters and I enjoyed the narration. The story was good but not spectacular, very entertaining. The intimate scenes were a bit too complicated to me, because Reid is from a race that only mates in their catlike form and only during mating season for the purpose of procreation. So he was a virgin in his humanoid form. That was pretty different.
