Daughter of Draekons by Lee Savino
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Daughter of Draekons is a short story set in the Exiled To The Prison Planet (Dragons in Exile) series. It does not not stand alone, and should be read after Draekon Destiny, Book 5. Catch up with everyone on the prison planet while you’re waiting for Draekon Fever.
We’re still stuck on the prison planet, and I’m pregnant.
I cycle between three states. Hungry. Horny. Weepy.
I eat french fries dipped in vanilla pudding.
I look like a beached whale.
I’m also scared. No one knows what my child will look like, or what species she’ll be. She could be human or Draekon, or…
Something else entirely. Something new.
Daughter of Draekons.

This was a mid series novella which catches the reader up on everything that happened so far. It starts with Harper, who is the first pregnant human in the group of Draekon and Humans. She is close to having her baby and suffering from some odd cravings (french fries dipped in vanilla pudding). She is also anxious about her baby, since she is the first human pregnant by the Draekon. She doesn’t know if her baby will be Human, Draekon or a mix.
The narration was done by Natasha Lawless, whose voice I really liked. The book was told in multiple points of view, by the ladies of the group. Each woman gave a bit of a summary about what is going on in their lives. They have moved into the hidden apartments inside the mountain which they found accidentally.
We also got a point of view of Raiht’vi, the scientist whose father is evil and who is engaged to the High Emporer, Lennox. We find that her father has been diverting the exile ships to hidden planets to experiment on the Draekon and if she told Lennox of what he has been doing would be the death of her father. Raiht’vi realizes that her father has been filling her head with lies all these years. She knows that the Draekons are more civilized than the scientists who studied them. She knows her father wants power which is why he arranged the marriage to the high emperor and she has heard rumors of his cruel streak as well.
There are now three groups of Draekons that have merged into one community. The batch of exiles headed by Arax, the batch that lived in the tree houses in the east so they could be safe from the crab like creatures that came out at night, and the rogues from that same batch that lived by the sea. The rogues left the tree house community because they were mid and low born and were sick of Herrix and Belfox who thought they were so superior because they were high born.
This was a nice little interlude in the lives of everyone in the community. Soldiers have finally landed on the planet and are searching for Raiht’vi and the human women.
