Always Be My Banshee by Molly Harper
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Cordelia Canton is on a top-secret assignment: travel to Mystic Bayou and use her powers as a touch-know psychic to learn more about the mysterious artifact that’s been pulled from the rift site.
She’s partnered with Brendan O’Connor, a rare male banshee whose tall, dark, and broody good looks are a major distraction.
Before long, it becomes clear that the artifact they’re studying is sentient – and brimming with supernatural power.
Can they harness its magic in time to stop the secret forces conspiring to steal it?

The heroine: Cordelia – she works for the International League of Interspecies Cooperation and has come to Mystic Bayou on a secret assignment to find out more about the rift with her psychic power of psychometry (touch). Her gift often gave her nightmares and she could get flashes from just being in an enclosed space with others.
The Hero: Brendan – a tall, handsome, lean and unnaturally pale Irish male banshee. He also works for the League and is in Mystic Falls for the same reason as Cordelia. Brendan is technically dead so is the perfect person to work near the rift and is able to handle the artifact they are supposed to study.
The Story: Cordelia met Brendan on their way into Mystic Falls. She is so curious about him that she touches him with her bare hand which she rarely does, due to the images, feelings and history she gets whenever she touches a person. Though when she touches Brendon, she gets nothing at all.
Banshee’s are described as a female spirit whose appearance or wailing warns a family that someone will soon die. So the fact that Brenden is a Banshee is very odd indeed. I have been loving the eclectic characters of Mystic Bayou. They have an unnatural love of Pie and are a wide range of supernatural beings and people with crazy powers. It is like Mayberry for paranormal people. Mystic Bayou on Halloween would definitely be something to see.
The narrators were Amanda Ronconi and Jonathon Davis like the rest of the series. Amanda really does have a ton of different voices and accents in her repertoire and she really does voice acting more than just reading and narrating. Jonathon Davis as well. I have enjoyed listening to this series. This one had a very interesting storylines with the mystery of the rift and the artifact, and these two characters with their odd gifts. Cordelia getting sometime terrible images and feelings from touching objects or people and Brenden seeing the deaths of people around him if they are soon to die. This was my favorite of the series so far.
