Audiobook Review: The Enforcer (Fire’s Edge, #3). ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Enforcer by Abigail Owen

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Death comes for everyone. Even Drake Chandali. The aging process that twists all unmated dragon shifters’ bodies into something useless has taken hold of his body centuries early. A mate could have reversed the process, but now it’s too late. To protect his team of enforcers, he leaves, and comes face to face with the woman he’d thought was human when he saved her from a fire months before.

Except she’s not human. She’s a mate.

Camilla Carrillo almost lost her family to wildfire. To discover she’s fated to mate a creature made of flame and rage, and become one herself, should be terrifying. But somehow a rightness settles inside her, especially when she’s around the glowering red dragon shifter who wants nothing to do with her.

When Drake learns Cami bears his mark — the same mark as the High King — he refuses to believe she’s meant to be his. It’s too late. How could he turn Cami only to take her with him to the grave? At the same time, he can’t walk away. Hiding her from the corrupt, rotting High King might be the last honorable thing Drake ever does with the little time he has left.

Dying dragon, Hidden mate!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Romance: 💙💚🖤💜❤️
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙📔
World building: 🌎🌍🌏🌎🌍
Character development: 😳😬🤬😚🥰

The heroine: Camilla – a human woman who was rescued along with her family while trying to escape a raging wildfire. She fears the rough and tough dragon that saved them, especially knowing she is the one that started the fire after she discovered her chest glowing. Though after saving her and her family, Drake wiped the memory from their minds.

The Hero: Drake – He is grumpy and growly and the most silent member of the Huracán Enforcers, dragons from different clans that monitor the western half of North America. Dragon shifters age extremely slowly but if they get to be 1000 years old without finding their fated mate, they begin dying. Drake is only about 700 years old but is already dying and has given up on finding his mate.

The Story: Camilla is taken in by Rune after discovering she is a dragon shifter mate. Rune is a rogue dragon shifter who used to be a Huracán Enforcer, but went rogue after figuring out how corrupt the mating council is. He now saves dragon mates from the process since mating with someone who is not their fated mate means death and the council pairs new women found as dragon mates with the wealthiest and most powerful dragon shifters instead of the men who are more possibly fated mates.

Drake arrives at the place where Rune is hiding the women he has saved to advise Rune and his team since now the Huracán team knows how corrupt the mating council is and has started to trust Rune more and agree with what Rune is doing for the dragon mates.

Like The Rookie, this book was narrated by Brian Pallino and Melissa Moran. I loved these narrators. With Brian having a deep gravelly voice that was perfect for Drake, grumpy dragon that he is. And Melissa has a pleasing tone and tempo that worked well for Camilla as well. I enjoyed every bit of this steamy and exiting story. I have already read the next two books in this series but plan to read the Prequel next. I hope Abigail Owen writes more in this series as there are plenty of other dragons on the Huracán Enforcer team that I would like to read about.
