Audiobook Review: My Lucky #13 (Hockey Hotties, #1). ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My Lucky #13 by Piper Rayne

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Lucky.

The one adjective used to describe my entire hockey career. I prefer to call it hard work, at least I did until my game went to complete crap. I haven’t scored in eight games and my team owner is talking about trading me.

I’ve never believed in superstitions. Never needed one. I suppose I was “lucky” in that way. But now the best way to refer to me is desperate. I’d wear the same socks for an entire year just to be the high-scoring center I used to be.

Imagine my surprise when after spending New Year’s Eve with a woman, I score a hat trick in the next game—that’s three goals in one game for you non-hockey lovers. Now, I have to track her down and bribe her to do it again before every game. Get your mind out of the gutter, I’m not talking about it.

I find her and when I get to know her better, I end up spending more time thinking about her than my game, but she’s made it clear she wants no part of me. She’s going to learn that I didn’t become a professional hockey player without having to fight for what I want.

My Lucky #13

True romance!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Romance: 💛🖤💜💚❤️
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙📔
World building: 🏒🏒🏒🏒🏒
Character development: ☺️😊😘😍

The heroine(s): Saige – she does the social media for professional athletes. Though she has promised herself she will never date another athlete after a past relationship gone wrong. She is dating Joran, who is a sports agent and happens to be Aiden Drake’s agent.

The Hero: Aiden “Shamrock” Drake – an NHL Professional Hockey player in a slump. He hasn’t scored in the last eight games and could be traded to another team. Despite his nickname, Aiden has never believed in luck or superstition, but at the following game after spending time with a woman who interests him at a party, he scores a hat trick.

The Story: After scoring the Hat Trick, Aiden’s coach and team, who are all superstitious hockey players, push him to figure out what he did that was out of the ordinary and keep doing it before every game. The only thing he can think of is his encounter with Saige, so he looks her up before the next game and sure enough he scores in the next game. This quickly turned into a superstition for Aiden and he decides to make it his go to before every game.

I have been loving sports romance lately and it is Hockey season, so I have been loving books like this lately and this one had a cute twist. Add that to the fact that the audiobook was told in dual POV by Jason Clarke and Savannah Peachwood, two of my favorite narrators, this was book hit the spot for me.

I liked the fact that this was a real romance with Aiden and Saige spending a lot of time together and getting to know each other very well before the book heats up quite a bit. I also liked the social media storyline, which turned out quite good.
