The heroine: Eleanor (a.k.a. Elle) – her father died years ago and her mother immediately married in order to keep her lifestyle. However, Elle’s stepfather Denton is a controlling man who wants everyone under his thumb. Elle has seen the way her mother can’t make a move without Denton’s approval and she never wants to have to answer to someone else like that. She gets a job at the pawn shop in the hopes that her father’s watch that should have gone to her is pawned by someone.

The Hero(es): Lord – brother to Constantine from the first two Beneath books. Lord owns Chains, the Pawn shop that Con initially bought to try to find a specific gun that was used in a crime. Lord is an alpha male and he has been expanding the shop into car buying/selling/restoration.

The Story: Elle gets a job at Lord’s pawn shop and finds out she loves everything about it. She is attracted to Lord and she finds that her society background comes in handy in the pawn business. She knows the value of a lot of different items and antiques and finds herself great at bargaining with customers.

Things don’t go very smoothly for Lord and Elle. A local gang leader takes an interest in Elle and people around them start getting murdered. I really like this story and the romance between these two. There are terrific supporting characters including Ricks the gang leader, Matthew who also works at the pawn shop, Hennessy who was a former friend of Lord and now a police detective, and DJ (Denton Junior) who is his father’s coked up mini me.
