The setting: “Homeland”, a prison-like institute run by the Alliance for Humanity

The Hero(s): Axel – an Angel that fell by choice. He was a warrior Angel who decided to fall in order to help the innocent. He is in charge of the Hunters and they track the hidden (supernatural creatures) that do bad things. They are now going after the Alliance for Humanity, whom they know is not actually for humanity. Axel goes undercover at Homeland (one of the Institutes the alliance runs). The Alliance has been tracking down the hidden and sending them to Homeland and other institutes like that where they torture and do tests on the hidden. The hunters want to shut them down.

The heroine: “L975373 (Elle) – Elle is considered one of the “Swords”. She was created in the Lab using Angel and other hidden DNA and trained as a weapon. When she is at Homeland she is a guard, but also one of the inmates. Though her and the other Swords are sometimes sent out on missions. She can feel people’s sin which surrounds them like an aura and also she feels intense pain when she breaks a promise. She doesn’t have any of her own choices regarding her actions or her body since she was created by them.

The Love Story: The Alliance is happy with the way that Elle turned out and wants more Swords like her but they can’t create more. They want to have her procreate so the child turns out like her. They choose Axel to do it because of his genetics. Axel and Elle get to know each other and find that they are like-minded about taking down Homeland.

I really enjoyed this story. It had a good background, but also was well written and very interesting. You don’t have to read any of the previous books to read this one, but some of the characters from the last book (Fallen Into Hell) appear in this one, so it is a plus. The last book had a great story as well, so it certainly doesn’t hurt to read it first. At the end of Fallen Into Hell, Adrian went on a mission for the Hunters, and he purposefully got himself caught by the Alliance.

So Adrian is in one of the cells at Homeland. Though Axel is undercover as a guard, so he can’t break cover to get Adrian out until his team is ready to take down Homeland, and Axel needs to get them more information before that can take place. I wish Adrian played a bigger part in this book. We also see Thanatos and Sophie and Sophie is pregnant.

There was a sneak peak at the end of the book about the next one which looks good, it seems that it will be a story about two of the characters that were rescued from Homeland. However, it seems to me that the story of Sophie, Thanatos and Adrian is left hanging so I hope that is either included in the next book or is the plot of the following book.
