The Dare by J.L. Beck
My rating: 5 of 5 stars.
He was more than my bully, he was what living nightmares were made of…
“I dare you…” It started as a childish game played between two friends, that ended in heartbreak.
I knew him once. A long time ago you may have even called us friends. That was before I moved away before my mother married his father before my entire life fell apart.
I lost everything, my friends, my popularity, my future.
This was supposed to be my fresh start… my last chance at new…
Vance Preston used to be a poor boy with a soft smile and kind eyes. He used to be my friend. Now he’s God’s gift to women, disgustingly handsome, and filthy rich.
He can do whatever he wants, say whatever he wants, and hurt whoever he wants.
No one can stop him, and no one dares too.He might as well be a god.
And his newest target: me.
He dares me to defy him.
He dares me to fight back.
He promises he won’t stop…
….not until he hurts me, not until he breaks me.The Dare
But I’m not afraid, because you can’t break something that’s already broken.
I loved it despite the fact that it contained one of my pet peeves.

I Just can’t get enough of these hate to love stories (or bully romances which are basically hate to love stories set in high school or college). This one was great even though it contained one of my big pet peeves which is when the blurb says, “you can’t break something that’s already broken.” Then the bully goes on to completely break the girl that was supposedly already broken.
I like the few where either the bully realizes how broken she truly is and decides to protect her instead of break her or even better the ones where she has been broken to the point where she has grown a steel backbone and gives as good as she gets and the bully ends up respecting her for that. In this one, though he does break her with his actions it is because he refuses to believe a thing she says. He has trust issues and nothing she says or does changes that.
There is explosive chemistry between Vance and Ava so even though they can’t Stand each other, they also can’t stay away from each other and it doesn’t help that their parents just got married and their rooms are across the hall from one another. This book is super steamy and filled with drama as well as some pretty devious pranks. I really enjoyed it all!
