Sociopathic Assassins finding love in all the wrong places

I love these books, the Hero’s are the toughest badass criminals you could ever find. They are damaged from being kidnapped as children and put into a brutal assassin program called The Pit, which got them addicted to a toxic drug that made them immoral senseless killers with no memory and a desire for blood and death. Now they are attempting to get off the drugs and out from under the thumbs of the men who run the program.

Meanwhile they have to continue to act like they are still on the drugs and working for the program by running Mafia businesses owned by some of the shareholders of The Pit. They can’t truly escape while some of their peers are still held hostage in the Pit. In the previous book, Ghosted, we met Shadow who had fallen in love with Zoe, who was Elle’s friend that came to the Salon (the brothel run by Ghost, Mist, Shadow and Flame), to try to avenge her Mother’s murder.

Zoe disappeared after a few weeks working as a waitress at the Salon. Elle had found out that Shadow was obsessed with her and was also looking for her. In this book, we meet Zoe prior to starting her job at The Salon. Her relationship with Shadow is volatile and steamy from the very beginning. They are attracted to each other and to the violence in each other from the first time they meet. Zoe had a boyfriend in the past who called her disturbed for wanting the things she wanted in bed, but she is attracted to the way Shadow makes her feel.

I don’t want to give away spoilers, but this book is pretty awesome in that it furthers the continuing storylines for team zero and the Pit. The romance between Shadow and Zoe is knocked out of the park. Her background and his mesh perfectly together and the intricacies involved are written extremely well. I just love this entire series. It is my cuppa (as Shadow’s Nonna would say).
