Bossy Surgeon

Bossy Surgeon by Lark Avery

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Steamy short read. Not sure about some of the language.

This book was not bad for the type of book it was, but I didn’t really like how the Hero explained things in one part. The Hero Duncan is a top Orthopedic Surgeon at a major hospital in New York City. His Best Friend is the brother of the Heroine Sara, who is now a ballet dancer in New York.

They both had a crush on each other growing up, though he was a few years older than her. When she crawled into bed with him when she was in college and he was about to move away for his residency, he scared her away by getting a bit kinky. She was naive and virginal and not ready so she ran.

Now she is ready for him but my problem is that he is basically a Dominant and into some light BDSM and what sounds like power exchange play in the bedroom. However, he doesn’t describe it that way at all. He describes it more like the following:

“I want to f*ck you Sara, every chance I get between now and when I leave this earth. ….I’ll need you to submit to me often, taking me exactly how I tell you to, but I’ll always make sure you enjoy it.”

It just sounds a bit to me like he isn’t explaining that she will have a choice to say no if she doesn’t feel like it. It doesn’t seem like a power exchange, more like he has all the power. Maybe a bit too Alpha claiming language for me. Other than that, the book was good.
