🎧 Audiobook/Book Review: Evermore (The Immortals, #1)

Author: Alyson Noel
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Narrator(s): Katie Schorr

👫🏻 Character Background and Plot Dynamics

Ever is a sixteen-year-old girl with psychic abilities that make physical contact difficult. Touch floods her with information she never asked for, and the intensity often leaves her overwhelmed. Before the accident she had a family, friends, popularity, and a life that felt bright and full. Everything changed the day their car crashed. Ever had a near death experience and watched her family cross a bridge and wave goodbye while she remained behind. She returned to her body alone and forever altered.

Damon arrives from New Mexico and joins Ever’s English class. The moment he walks in, she hears the thoughts of everyone around her as they admire him. When he sits beside her and asks to share her book, she hides under her hoodie, hoping to avoid the sensory overload that comes with touch. At lunch the entire school seems to be talking about him, including her best friends Haven and Miles.

Ever worries that Damon will think she is strange like so many others do. When he approaches her and her friends, she cannot stop staring. What shocks her most is the absence of an aura around him. Since waking in the hospital after the accident, she has seen auras around everyone. She learned quickly to hide her abilities, including the fact that she can read thoughts and that her younger sister still visits her. The only people she cannot read or see an aura on are the dead, which makes Damon’s blankness unsettling.

🌟 Strengths

• The paranormal angle is refreshing. Damon is an immortal rather than a vampire, and Ever’s abilities span thought reading, seeing the dead, and glimpsing the past through touch.
• The love triangle works surprisingly well. Damon’s history with Drina feels complicated but no longer romantic on his side, which adds tension without becoming melodramatic.
• The story offers a unique twist on the fated mates idea. Ever has been reincarnated many times throughout Damon’s long life, and their connection stretches across lifetimes.

💔 Limitations

• The story leans heavily into young adult themes. With Ever being only sixteen, the tone and emotional framing are clearly designed for a younger audience.

🎙 Narration

Katie Schorr delivers the audiobook with a youthful voice that fits Ever perfectly. Her narration is expressive and engaging, and she captures Ever’s emotional landscape well. She is less skilled at creating distinct voices for different characters, but her overall performance still enhances the story.

💭 Final Assessment

This story blends paranormal intrigue with a deeply emotional coming of age arc. Ever’s abilities and trauma shape every part of her life, and Damon’s arrival forces her to confront truths she has tried to avoid. The reincarnation element adds depth to their connection, and the world feels imaginative and atmospheric. While the young adult tone may not appeal to every listener, the combination of psychic abilities, immortal lore, and emotional tension creates a compelling experience.
