Audiobook Review: Claiming Bailey (Ace Security, #3) by Susan Stoker. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Claiming Bailey by Susan Stoker

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Opposites attract in the third Ace Security novel from author Susan Stoker.

Bailey Hampton will do whatever it takes to keep both herself and her little brother safe from the vicious Inca Boyz gang. Hiding out in Castle Rock, Colorado, is only a temporary solution until she can earn enough money to get out of the state altogether. But when she meets handsome security nerd Nathan Anderson, she discovers a reason to stay and fight for what she wants.

Ace Security’s Nathan Anderson has always been the “numbers guy,” not the man any of the firm’s clients look to when their safety is threatened. But from the first time he ran into Bailey, she never made him feel like less of a protector than his brothers. Nathan was attracted to the petite, black-haired pixie with wild tattoos from the start, and by some miracle, she seems to return his interest.

But danger stalks Bailey and her brother, so it’s up to Nathan to channel his inner alpha and find a way to end the threat to their lives once and for all – and he’s not giving up Bailey without a fight.

Plot and Character Impressions

Nathan Anderson is one of three fraternal triplets and a co‑owner of Ace Security, the company he and his brothers built after surviving the trauma of their father’s death at the hands of their mother. Their mission is simple but deeply personal. They want the people of Castle Rock to know they can seek help without fear, shame, or judgment.

Unlike his brothers, Nathan did not join the military at eighteen. He left home but chose a quieter path, embracing his identity as a numbers‑loving introvert and building a career as an accountant. For years he buried himself in work, but everything changed when Ace Security began targeting the Inca Boyz gang. Nathan has been fixated on finding and protecting Donovan’s ex‑girlfriend, a woman who escaped the gang and vanished.

Bailey spent most of her twenty‑four years surrounded by the Inca Boyz. She believed she deserved nothing better than the cruelty she endured. Even as Donovan’s old lady, she was beaten, passed around, and forced into degrading situations. Donovan even had his men restrain her while he branded her with a humiliating tattoo that marked her as his property.

After her father died, Bailey became guardian to her nine‑year‑old brother Joel. When Donovan began grooming Joel to join the gang, teaching him to disrespect women, smoke pot, and watch pornography, Bailey reached her breaking point. She fled with Joel, found work as a mechanic, and tried to build a quiet life far from the gang’s reach.

A chance encounter at a grocery store brings her face to face with Nathan, who is struggling with car trouble. She helps him, and the connection is immediate. Nathan is handsome in an understated way, awkward but sincere, and Bailey finds herself drawn to him in a way she never expected.

What Makes This Story Shine

• Bailey’s past is difficult to read, yet her determination to break free from the gang and protect her brother shows remarkable strength. Her history is not framed as shameful but as a testament to her resilience and courage.

• The pairing of a tattooed, hardened survivor with a self‑described nerd creates a refreshing opposites‑attract dynamic. Nathan may be quiet and analytical, but he is also trained in judo and co‑owns a company built to protect victims. He sees Bailey as someone worth fighting for, not someone to judge.

• Like the other books in the Ace Security series, this story explores themes of trauma recovery, emotional healing, and rebuilding trust. Bailey’s relationship with Nathan grows through patience, honesty, and the slow rebuilding of her self‑worth.

• Nathan’s bond with Joel is one of the most heartwarming parts of the book. Watching him help undo Donovan’s influence and give Joel a healthier model of masculinity adds depth to the story and strengthens the family dynamic forming between the three of them.

Minor Drawbacks

• Bailey’s past is heavy, and the emotional weight of her trauma often overshadows the romantic chemistry. Much of her relationship with Nathan centers on support and healing, which makes the romance feel slower and more subdued.

Audiobook Performance

The story is told through multiple points of view but narrated by a single performer, Erin Bennett. Her voice is pleasant and steady, and she captures the tone of the book well. Even so, a dual or duet narration would have added more emotional nuance and clearer character distinction. Reading the book while listening to the audio creates a more immersive experience and helps bring the story to life.

Final Opinion

Claiming Bailey delivers a heartfelt blend of danger, healing, and unexpected connection. Bailey’s journey from degradation to empowerment is compelling, and Nathan’s gentle steadiness provides the safe harbor she desperately needs. The romance unfolds slowly, shaped more by emotional recovery than fiery chemistry, but it feels authentic to the characters and their histories. The audiobook performance is solid, though a second narrator would have elevated the emotional impact. Overall, this is a moving installment in the Ace Security series, offering a powerful story of survival, found family, and the quiet strength of a man who chooses to love with patience and loyalty.
