Book Review: Privately Tempted (Billionaire Bear Brotherhood)

Author: Lily Cahill
Genre: Paranormal Romance / Shifters / Novella

Alana arrives on a Caribbean island hoping that a glamorous work retreat might smooth over the growing tension between her and her fiancé, Brent. Instead, she finds herself surrounded by people, Brent included, who seem far more invested in her appearance than her happiness. Even her wealthy parents treat her like a reflection of their status rather than a daughter, nudging her toward designer labels and polished perfection she never asked for. So when Brent slips away from an elegant dinner to “catch up on work,” Alana feels abandoned but not surprised.

What she doesn’t expect is to follow a noise in the bushes and discover Brent cheating on her with a board member from his company.

Humiliated and heartbroken, Alana flees down the beach, past the manicured edges of the resort, and into the path of Tristan Day, the billionaire CEO of Brent’s company. She has no idea he’s also a bear shifter, but what she does sense immediately is his steadiness, his quiet protectiveness, and the way he sees her as a person rather than a project. Their connection sparks quickly, but it feels grounded in something real, not rushed.

For a novella, the story delivers more than many in its category. There’s a clear arc, a satisfying conflict, and even a few steamy moments that feel earned rather than obligatory. Tristan’s treatment of Alana is a standout, gentle, respectful, and exactly the kind of contrast that makes her previous relationship look even more hollow.

Still, the brevity left me wanting more. I would have loved to see Alana confront her parents, or watch Brent face a bit more fallout. Most of all, I wanted more time with Alana and Tristan as they navigate the early stages of their relationship. The world and characters are strong enough to support a full-length novel, and the emotional beats hint at a richer story waiting to be explored.

Final Assessment:
As a novella, this is a satisfying, engaging read with a solid emotional core and a hero worth swooning over. But with its compelling setup and promising characters, it could have been an even better novel.
