Audiobook Review: Pursued (Raider Warlords of the Vandar, #4) by Tana Stone. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Pursued by Tana Stone

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

As the empire’s most ruthless female assassin, I’m used to killing without a second thought. But I’ve never infiltrated a raider horde before. Or seduced after a vicious Vandar warlord.

When I contrive to be captured by the raiders who terrorize the galaxy, my plan is to seduce Raas Bron before I assassinate him. That’s before I lay eyes on the huge, menacing Vandar with his long, dark hair and even longer tail. Despite his size and fierce reputation, the dominant warlord is no brainless beast. He’s a formidable foe who takes me to his bed and fires something within me that’s long been dormant. Soon, I don’t know if I’m seducing him, or if he’s seducing me. The longer I pursue the Raas, the harder it is to remember my mission.

Even as the alien warlord claims my body as his, I attempt to protect my heart and remind myself of my duty. Can I fulfill my promise to the empire, or will I lose myself in the passionate raider’s desire to possess me—body and soul? If I don’t kill the warlord who’s claimed me, I know I’ll become the one pursued by the empire. And the empire does not show mercy to rogue assassins.

🎧 Audiobook Review: Pursued (Raider Warlords of the Vandar)

Author: Tana Stone
Genre: Science Fiction Romance / Alien Romance
Narrators: Marcio Catalano and Addison Barnes

🦸🏻‍♂️ The Heroine: Alana

Alana is one of the most lethal assassins in the galaxy, fearless, cunning, and capable of slipping into impossible situations with a mix of seduction and precision. Known as Mantis in the underground, she’s a weapon shaped by the Zagrath from childhood, ripped from her parents and forged into something deadly. When we meet her, she’s stationed at a grim imperial outpost on Relarin, surrounded by Zagrath warriors and preparing for a mission that hinges on deception. The Zagrath load her ship with tracker‑laced cargo, intending to use her as bait to expose Vandar cloaked ships. Alana believes she’s serving the “right” side because she’s never been allowed to believe anything else. Her loyalty is survival, not conviction.

🦸🏼‍♀️ The Hero: Raas Bron

Bron is newly thrust into the role of Raas after Kratos steps down, and he’s still adjusting to the weight of leadership. He’s used to the disciplined life of an officer, not the sprawling Raas quarters with their silks and space. Despite leading a horde that helped destroy an imperial fleet, he feels untested and unworthy, an insecurity rooted in his orphaned past. That simmering frustration and sense of impending doom make him a compelling mix of strength and vulnerability. He wants to be the leader his horde deserves, even if he’s not convinced he’s earned it.

🔥 Plot Dynamics

When Bron’s horde encounters a battered imperial ship, they board it and discover Alana, bruised, shaken, and spinning a carefully crafted tale about escaping an imperial mine. The Vandar nearly leave her behind, but something in her story (or perhaps Bron’s instincts) convinces them to bring her aboard. They destroy her ship and the cargo, along with the Zagrath trackers, derailing her mission before it even begins. Alana panics at the thought of losing her only lifeline back to the Zagrath, but she steels herself. She’s survived worse, and she’s determined to complete her mission… even if it means betraying the very people who just saved her.

🌟 Strengths

• Alana is a fierce, layered heroine whose trauma‑forged resilience makes her compelling. Her backstory, stolen childhood, brutal training, and the pressure of being the Zagrath’s top assassin, adds depth to her hardened exterior.
• Bron’s intuition shines. His immediate suspicion of the cargo and his decision to destroy it without hesitation shows intelligence and leadership, grounding him as more than just a warrior.

💔 Limitations

• Alana’s unwavering hatred of the Vandar stretches believability. The Zagrath kidnapped her, weaponized her, and abused her, yet she clings to the belief that the Vandar are the true enemy, even after they rescue and treat her with respect. Her emotional logic doesn’t fully align with her lived experience, making her stubbornness feel more like a plot requirement than a natural character flaw.

🎙 Narration

The dual POV duet narration by Addison Barnes and Marcio Catalano is a standout feature of this series. The duet format adds immersion and emotional clarity, making the story feel more cinematic. Marcio Catalano delivers a smooth, versatile performance with distinct voices that bring the Vandar world to life. Addison Barnes’ slightly scratchy tone fits Alana perfectly, tough, guarded, and battle‑worn. Both narrators sound natural and expressive, elevating the tension and character dynamics.

💭 Final Thoughts & Opinion

This installment delivers a gripping mix of danger, deception, and slow‑burn tension between two characters shaped by trauma and duty. Alana’s internal conflict and Bron’s quiet turmoil create a compelling push‑pull dynamic, even when some of Alana’s motivations feel inconsistent. The world‑building remains strong, the action is engaging, and the narration enhances every emotional beat. While not flawless, it’s a satisfying entry in the Vandar universe, especially for listeners who love fierce heroines, conflicted heroes, and high‑stakes sci‑fi romance.
