📚 Character Background and Plot Dynamics

Carter Dominick, Dom to those who served beside him, is a man built for the Army’s Special Forces. The discipline, the danger, the purpose… he thrived in all of it. But his marriage to Rebecca, a woman he genuinely loved, was strained by the constant separations and the risks he took every time he deployed. After inheriting billions and the weight of her parents’ political ambitions, Rebecca pushed Dom to leave Delta Force and join the CIA, hoping a “safer” job would keep him home. Instead, both of them ended up miserable, still loving each other, but trapped in lives neither truly wanted.

Years earlier, during a Delta Force mission, Dom rescued a diplomat and her brilliant twenty‑year‑old daughter, Diana. The operation turned deadly when a bomb detonated nearby, but Dom got Diana out alive. They crossed paths a few times afterward, and while he always saw her as a kid, ten years his junior, Diana developed a quiet crush on the man who saved her life. With her Stanford degree in environmental science, minors in chemical engineering, and studies in nuclear and quantum physics, she’s a prodigy with a razor‑sharp mind.

Everything changes when Rebecca is brutally murdered during a home invasion—an attack Dom hears unfold over the phone. Consumed by guilt and convinced her death is tied to him, he uses the fortune he inherited to hunt down her killers. But the deeper he digs, the more he uncovers truths about his wife he never imagined… and never wanted to know.

🌟 Strengths

• A delicious stalker‑romance edge. Dom’s fixation on Diana scratches that morally‑gray itch without tipping into the unbelievable.
• Relentless action and suspense. Once Diana is taken hostage, the tension spikes and barely lets up.
• Solid character development. Dom’s relationships with his military brothers and colleagues add depth and grounding, even if some supporting characters don’t get the spotlight they deserve.

💔 Limitations

• Romance detour with the spouse. Steamy scenes between a main character and someone other than the eventual love interest always pull me out of the story, and this one was no exception.
• Repetitive internal conflict. Dom’s constant insistence that he “can’t have” Diana becomes circular and slows the emotional momentum.
• The heroine’s name. Diana is a perfectly fine name, but if a song like “Dirty Diana” starts looping in your head every time it’s spoken… it’s a problem you can’t un-hear.

🎙️ Narration

The dual POV format shines thanks to Connor Crais and Ava Lucas, two narrators who consistently elevate the material they’re given.

• Connor’s deep, commanding delivery fits Dom’s intensity and emotional weight.
• Ava’s soft, expressive voice brings nuance to Diana and keeps her grounded and likable.

Together, they create a smooth, immersive listening experience.

💬 Final Assessment

This audiobook blends action, obsession, grief, and slow‑burn attraction into a story that’s gripping from the first chapter. While certain elements, particularly the early marital intimacy and Dom’s repetitive self‑denial, may frustrate romance purists, the emotional stakes and high‑octane suspense more than compensate. The morally gray undertones, strong narration, and escalating danger make it a compelling listen for fans of stalker‑tinged romantic suspense.

Overall, it’s an intense, addictive ride with flawed characters, explosive action, and a romance that simmers beneath the chaos.
