Desired by the Alien Bodyguard: Warrior Mates of Zivon, Book 8 by Presley Hall
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Fate pushed us together. Will the dangers we face tear us apart?
Desired by the Alien Bodyguard
When technical failures force us to abandon The Oasis, I end up alone in an escape pod with a dashing Zivonian warrior named Raza.
If our situation was bad to start with, it gets a whole lot worse when the pod malfunctions, separating us from the others and sending us hurtling toward the surface of the planet where we’d hoped to settle.
The last thing Raza says to me before we crash is, “I’ll protect you.”
But it’s only after we emerge from the wreckage that I realize how deeply he meant those words.
With the two of us lost together on a strange new planet, he considers it his duty to act as my bodyguard—and when an alien creature’s attack leaves me blinded, I have to accept his help, no matter how much I hate relying on anyone.
As we journey across the landscape together, though, something changes between us. I’m developing feelings for my protective alien bodyguard, every touch awakening a fierce desire within me.
But can I find the courage to admit I’m falling for him?
Or will the threats that loom on the horizon kill us both before I get a chance?

The heroine: Samantha – she used to be an advertising executive for a high-profile company. She was abducted from earth and rescued by the chameleon like Zivonians. She lives on the Oasis, the one community spaceship that was able to get away from Zivon when it was attacked by the Kruul. Since she was in advertising she has been drawn to the attractive race of Zivonians, especially the shaggy haired one with aqua blue eyes.
The Hero: Raza – What’s left of the Zivonian civilization lives on the Oasis ship which has been moving around in space now for more than five years and the toll of non-stop flight has been taking its toll on the ship. He has been very worried about the mechanical failures on the Oasis, which have become more frequent, and he knows the importance of finding a new planet to call home before the situation gets any more dire. He is interested in the tiny woman with the fragile look named Samantha and tries not to frighten her any more than necessary.
The Story: The Zivonians find a planet that might be habitable, though it is risky to attempt to land there. It is even riskier to stay in space for much longer since the ship could break down and drift in space with no way to fix it. Samantha has been a bit bored on the Oasis without anything to strive for like in her old life, so she is a bit excited about a new planet. As they get closer to the new planet, there is an announcement that they all have to abandon ship and get to the escape vessels. The ship is shaking and lurching violently. Samantha is knocked off her feet and gets behind the others and the blast door is closed in her way. She runs into Raza, who also got caught behind a closed doorway. They have to make it to some older escape pods in a different part of the ship.
Their survival story is gripping, and it perfectly exemplifies why I love alien romances. As the Oasis is crumbling around them while entering the new planet’s atmosphere, the two main characters end up in one of the older pods and are launched. Their pod malfunctions and is out of control, it goes down far away from all the other pods. When they finally land, Raza is unconscious, Samantha is exhausted, and she gets him out of the pod only to see a huge spider-like creature the size of a treehouse not far away.
What I love about these alien romances is they always end up on a perilous journey and this one was no different. The two main characters are traveling on a world they know nothing about with all sorts of dangerous creatures. To make matters worse, Samantha loses her sight, and she is the kind of person that always wants to be independent, so it is a completely foreign experience for her to be dependent on Raza. The attraction these two felt for each other back on the oasis is still there and the forced proximity intensifies their feelings.
This audiobook was told in multiple perspectives, done in dual narration and narrated by Stefanie Kay and C.J. Grey. both are very good narrators. C.J. Grey has a deep, gravelly voice which works well for alien romance. Stefanie Kay has a clear, feminine voice and sounds the right age for the heroine. The dual narration amplifies the emotional tension, allowing us to fully experience both Samantha’s vulnerability and Raza’s quiet determination.
