The Alien’s Equal by Ella Maven
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
He’s done waiting… and is ready to claim his mate.
The Alien’s Equal
Justine: Alien planet life isn’t so bad. I’ve taken a vow of celibacy so the perfect male specimens walking around with their bulging muscles and other…bulges…don’t do it for me. I’m content to live my life and avoid the one male with the soft voice and all-knowing eyes who has me rethinking that vow.
But our peaceful existence is threatened by enemies who want to use my human friends and I as nothing but breeders. I spent too long without control of my life to sit back on the sidelines during an alien war where my friends and I are the spoils. I’m slapping on warpaint and suiting up alongside my alien saviors. No one controls my destiny but me.
Nero: Justine is mine—I knew it the moment I met her. But she requires patience and a gentle touch. I can’t rush this, or I’ll never win her over. But as war looms, I realize I might have waited too long. My role is crucial to ensuring the Drixonian’s complete freedom from the exploitative Uldani, and it’s a mission I might not return from.
Even worse news? Justine insists on fighting at my side. What she doesn’t know is that my patience has come to an end. By the time I’m through, she’ll beg me to claim her.
Good story!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💚💜💙🩷
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📔
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏
Character development: 😒🤩😀🙂
Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration type: Dual Narration
The heroine: Justine – before she was abducted from earth by alien, she had been hurt and used by men, and she didn’t want any more of that. After being freed by the Drixonian warriors, she was still of that same mind despite the fact that all the other women had since fallen in love and had been treated like queens by their Drixonian mates.
The Hero: Nero – he knew from the very beginning that Justine was his mate, but she was standoffish and didn’t like to be touched even by the other females. While all his friends had gotten mates, he struggled to even get near the female he knows is his. He is the head of security for the clavasse and he is a wizard with technology. He put up cameras and security all around their living area that he monitors from his hut.
The Story: Justine is a bit more apt to like Nero after he helps her set up an automatic feeder for a little animal that she had been feeding nightly with one of the little human Drixonian hybrid kids. When Justine hears the council mention that Nero will be going on a mission to infiltrate the Uldani base and sabotage their ability to use their long-range weapons during the upcoming war between the drix and the Uldani.
The story about sneaking onto the Uldani base was good, it was also very suspenseful. I loved the fact that though Justine was denying the fact that she wanted to be mates with Nero, as soon as she heard he was going on a dangerous mission alone, she demanded that she would go with him and she wanted to make sure she had his back.
This audiobook was told in multiple perspectives, done in dual narration and narrated by Jeffrey Kafer and Heather Costa. Heather is a good narrator; she is very expressive and does a great job. The only thing I don’t like about her is that she sounds somewhat older than the character should be. Jeffrey Kafer has a deep voice which works well for the alien romance trope.
