Audiobook Review: Mother Maker (The Momcoms, #2) by Jenni Bara. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Mother Maker by Jenni Bara

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

All I want is one night.

One night away from the falling down brownstone filled with my three best friends, a broody billionaire, and our seven children. Oh, and you can’t forget those adorable raccoons.

But the universe apparently has other ideas because I get drunk and sleep with the baseball player.
Now two little lines turn my escape into a completely new adventure. But we’re just going to co-parent not get into anything serious.

No matter how many times I tell Cortney Miller, who is now sharing my bed and watching my every move, that we’re not meant to be, he won’t let go.

Is it possible he could be more than just the mother maker?

The Hero: Cortney – he plays professional baseball for the Boston Revs, and he is sent to the team owners’ house. He is sure that he is being punk’d by his teammates when he sees the house. It is four stories and looks like a “dilapidated money pit” and is obviously full of kids. The holiday decorations from the last few holidays are still up in the windows despite the fact that it is July. His teammates told him the teenager that stole his lucky socks lived in that house. He is surprised to find Beckett Langfield there at the brownstone. He had only just been traded to the team after 10 years with New York and he wanted to keep up his winning streak, so here he is.

The heroine: Dylan – she lives in a big brownstone in Boston with her three best friends, the billionaire that is married to one of them, and seven children. Her and her best friends had committed to living in the brownstone together and raising their kids together. When one of them married the billionaire, Beckett Langfield, he moved in as well. Though Beckett had plans of matching up the three other women with men of their own so he would be left with his wife and kids alone. Dylan has one fifteen-year-old son named Liam, who is out at his dad’s house, so she planned on taking advantage of the situation.

The Story: Cortney had noticed Dylan when she was at the stadium earlier that day, which is why he hadn’t been paying attention when his lucky socks got stolen. Dylan was the kind of woman who is pretty laid back and takes life as it comes, with bare feet and comfortable bo-ho chic clothes. She likes to have fun. When she found out that it was her son that took the socks, she went to find them and slipped out of the house, planning on a night of fun. As Cortney was leaving, Dylan came up to him and gave him his lucky socks and accepted his offer for a date.

I really liked both of the main characters, especially Dylan. She was obviously a happy person who keeps a positive attitude no matter what. She was very non-judgmental and has no filter. Though I really wondered about the fact that this was an accidental pregnancy romance, especially when she was thinking back to her college days and the fact that she accidentally got pregnant with her son. Though they did use protection, so it really was an accident. Dylan wasn’t looking for any long-term relationship, though she wasn’t averse to something short term with Cortney. He also was very busy with his career, so didn’t have time for anything else.

This was a fun, heartfelt romance with a unique setup! The brownstone living arrangement added an interesting dynamic, especially with Beckett playing matchmaker behind the scenes. Dylan was such an easygoing, free-spirited character. Her carefree attitude paired with a strong commitment to her unconventional family made her feel really grounded while still bringing that lighthearted charm. The accidental pregnancy angle added an extra layer of intrigue, especially since Dylan isn’t looking for anything long-term. It makes for an interesting contrast: a woman who embraces life as it comes but also has responsibilities that naturally tie her to the past.

This audiobook was told in the main characters points of view via duet narration and was narrated by Maxine Mitchell and Teddy Hamilton. These are two of my favorite narrators and they always do a terrific job. They are both voice actors, have great voices, and are very expressive. Though I did have a bit of trouble figuring out who was talking at times, since Maxine isn’t always great at using different voices for different female characters.
