The Hacker by Leslie Georgeson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
She’s on the hunt for the truth. I’m trying to keep her in the dark. What will happen if she discovers I’m the man who killed her father?
The Hacker
I steal secrets. I can slip through any firewall, decrypt any document, hack any electronic device. Nothing is safe from me.
When someone is researching me, I take notice.
The senator’s daughter is on to me. An investigative reporter hunting for the truth about her father’s death, she’s an unstoppable force. She knows the Hacker was involved.
Unable to resist her pull, I dare her to find me, leaving a trail of crumbs for her to follow.
She takes the bait.
I now have two choices: Scare her away. Or reveal the truth.
Something about Shannon makes my heart quiver. Her boldness and courage speak to the warrior in me. Her beauty stops me in my tracks.
But how far will she go for her story?
If I allow her into my life, she can destroy me and my dreg brothers.
But if I let her go, I will lose my only chance at love.
Super soldier, genetically engineered Hero!

The Hero: Noah – he was a dreg and was known as The Hacker because of his high IQ and his abilities with all kinds of computers and electronics. His former cell mate Logan was his best friend, and they had a bond like each of the dregs have with their former cell mates. Noah told Logan he would soon join him and some of the other dregs in Idaho, but first he planned on finding out what was in the encrypted files he found from ‘The Company’, the ones that had held them until they escaped.
“The General allowed me to visit the electronics room for several hours each day, always under observation. Nothing I did ever went unnoticed. I was constantly monitored. Kept under close watch. And my abilities were honed, strengthened, and put to The General’s use. I soon became one of the best hackers in the world.”
“The General never expected my abilities to come back to haunt him. He never expected me to use my dreg talent against him. The day the dregs escaped, I hacked into The General’s server and transferred twenty million dollars into another account. I stole most of his fortune and shared it with my dreg brothers. If I’d had time and the means, I would have also stolen all The Company data, but we’d been fighting for our lives that day, and escaping was our main priority.”
The heroine: Shannon – she was an investigative reporter for a Georgia TV news station and a top internet blogger where she posted articles, including her own opinions. She was also the daughter of the senator that Noah had found out was one of the major shareholders of The Company. The Senator and two men had found Noah two weeks ago, and the two guards had beat him badly before the senator shot him, then Noah and Logan had killed the senator. Shannon’s last blog post stated she intended to find her father’s killer, but she had gone silent since then.
The story: Noah had been researching Shannon. Ever since he first saw a picture of her, he had been fascinated, but he wanted to see how much she knew about her father’s activities. Had the senator kept his double life hidden from her, or was she also a part of The Company? When he discovers that it might be Shannon that hired a private investigator to look into him, he decides to step in before they get too close.
I have really enjoyed this series so far. When I find a series like this that I really enjoy, I tend to read a few books, then take a break and then a few more and another break. I think that is the best way to do it so that the stories don’t all sound similar and you can really enjoy each one. So, it has been a bit since I read the last one and I was more than ready for this one. Though I found that I easily remembered the prior books and one thing I remembered was that there are always surprises in these stories. It isn’t often that I read a romance where something unpredictable really surprises me, and these stories have been good at that. This one especially so. I definitely plan to read the last two books very soon. I wish there were more in this series.
“I was certainly getting a bigger story than I’d bargained for. In fact, it was no longer just a story. It was very real. And I was now a major player. I’d become what I despised most in stories. The damsel in distress.”
