My rating: 4 of 5 stars
A grumpy demon warrior who doesn’t want a mate.
A Monster’s Heart
A secret spy mission to a mysterious outpost.
One pretend mating to protect me from human-hating savages.
Only one freakin’ bed.
A metric ton of pheromones.
Wings, claws, and a sneaky tail.
What can possibly go wrong?
Knowing my luck? Everything.
Monster’s Heart is a sci-fi alien romance with a growly hero, lots of action, and an HEA, guaranteed. This series has dystopian themes.

The heroine: Penelope – she is a human female that has lived with the Kadrixan males for the past two years. She came to help them with the rut and decided to stay as it was a much better life than the one she led in the colony. She writes erotic romance novels and posts them online for anyone to read.
The Hero: Vostak – he was a grumpy male Kadrixan who is determined that he will never have a mate. He was so determined that he didn’t even set up a nest in the mountains which is where his fellow males take their mates. He was rejected in the past and is now convinced that he doesn’t deserve a mate. Though he watches the human female, Penelope.
The Story: Penelope and Vostak go on a mission and are forced to spend time together. Penelope had hoped to find a mate amongst the Kadrixan males, but hadn’t found one yet, though she often watched Vostak in the fighting rings where the warriors practiced each day. While on their mission, they find out more about the Utopia project which the colony ran. The colony is run by the wealthy, and they had various laws that the poor were forced to break, like if they were in debt or if they were evicted and dind’t have a place to live. The females that broke laws were given the choice to go to the Kadrixan settlement and help with the rut, or to join the Utopia project.
This was a good alien adventure romance. Forced proximity with a journey, which I love. I also loved that Vostak was a grouchy alien who had a low opinion of his own value and a strong female main character. This audiobook was told in dual points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Wen Ross and Kai Kennicott. Both of these narrators are good; they have nice voices and are expressive. Definitely voice actors, not just readers, which is a must as far as I am concerned. Wen Ross has a nice, deep voice that I really liked. They did a great job on this book and narrate this entire series.
