Audiobook Review: Klutz: Phoenix Down (But Did You Die, #1) by Sedona Ashe. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Klutz: Phoenix Down by Sedona Ashe

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

After I rescued these jerks from a plane crash, you’d think they’d be nicer to me.

I die, like all the time. My track record of hilarious, freak accidental deaths would be impressive if it weren’t so embarrassing.

And when I come back, I’m naked. Every. Dang. Time.

After my plane was sabotaged and crashed into the jungle, I rescued five male survivors from the wreckage.

I could have let them die, but no, I decided to pull their stupid carcasses from the wreckage. I’m immortal, not a monster.

Yes, they’re hot, now is not the time to do something about that.

The five sexy jaguar shifters are on a mission to locate someone, a rare phoenix shifter. Phoenix, the legendary creature, reborn every time it dies. Wait…

…Could they be looking for me?

It doesn’t matter since they walked away and left me to die in the Amazon rainforest. A place full of interesting new ways for a klutz like me to die. Surviving the jungle is harsh, but it’s nothing compared to how they have treated me.

And the worst part?

It turns out these bullies are my fated mates. Yep, I must be cursed.

I can’t wait to escape the jungle and leave these guys behind, but another part of me is begging to love them…

Was the Amazon always this hot?

“I realized that vipers weren’t the only snakes in this jungle.”

World building: 🌏🌍🌎
Character development: ☺️😍

Narration type: Dual Narration

The heroine: Amaryllis – she was on an airplane which crashed in the Amazon Rainforest. She is immortal and a klutz, needless to say she has died many times. When she boarded the plane, she noticed the five men who looked like they stepped off a Paris runway. She noticed during the crash that the five of them looked more annoyed than worried. As for herself, she was not looking forward to dying again. Every time she died, she woke up naked, which wasn’t fun. She found that the five hot guys were barely alive and, underwater in the river, she felt a weird pull towards them, so she dove under and saved them.

The Story: It only took about a minute for Amaryllis to regenerate after each death. Everything was new again including any aging that had taken place between deaths, and she woke up as a twenty-year-old again each time. The regeneration took a lot out of her each time and this time she had to use some of her powers to get the guys out of the water. Amaryllis knew she would soon fall asleep and not wake up for days. She used all her magic and ended up dying again, she had never done that twice before in one day so she was afraid she would not wake up.

The Heroes: Anzack, Knox, Dagger, Mace, Jet – They are all jaguar shifters and are on a mission to find a rare phoenix shifter. They are all bonded and are the supernaturals that were sent on the assignments that nobody could know about. They were sent to clean out corruption in the supernatural and mortal worlds. They weren’t fond of their current assignment. Though their director was keen to bring in the rumored phoenix shifter. They thought it was a wild goose chase. They didn’t expect their plane to be hit by a missile. Anzack was surprised that a tiny naked woman with long red hair rescued them. He felt the mate bond and thought she was human even though she had saved all of them, he never wanted a mate.

When Amaryllis woke up, the five guys were not happy that they had to wait for her to regain consciousness, they told her that the plane was sabotaged, and they had to leave the area immediately. They told her she had better keep up. They thought she was a human and Amaryllis worried about all the food she would need. She knew they would probably give her smaller portions considering her small size. She knew she would suffer severe pains if she didn’t get a lot of food after her regenerations.

I really liked the fact that this story had a very uncommon kind of supernatural being. Amaryllis had some weird powers and abilities. I also love that she is a klutz, though I tend to think she wasn’t as much of a klutz as just someone with a lot of bad luck. The guys were pretty cruel to her, they thought she was taking too much of their time. Anzack knew she was his mate but chose not to be distracted by her. None of them liked the fact that she was just an ordinary human, and they were kind of stuck with her. It turned out that they were so afraid of a bond forming between them, that they kept trying to lose her in the jungle. This was more than just guys being bullies, it was guys being completely uncaring of someone else’s pain. I didn’t like these guys at all. They thought because they felt bad about what they were doing, that they weren’t monsters, but in truth that made them worse.

The world building was ok, but the character development was not. We got a little background about Amaryllis, but not much about any of the guys, a bit about them as a group, but almost nothing of them as individuals. We got their descriptions and even their descriptions as jaguars but didn’t even get most of their names till more than halfway through the book.

This audiobook was told in the main characters points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Jake Bordeaux and Bridget Bordeaux. Bridget has a strong, clear voice and is very expressive. Jake has a deep voice and is good at doing different voices for different characters. Neither of these narrators is in my list of favorites, but they do a good job, and their voices don’t annoy me at all. Also, you can’t tell they are reading, which is another plus.
