Review: Coveted by the Hunter (Xarc’n Warriors, #10) by Lynnea Lee. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Coveted by the Hunter by Lynnea Lee

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

HEATHER
When I offered to help the scary alien hunter rescue his friend, I had no idea the seven feet tall brute planned on abducting me. Now I’m stuck in a shuttle with my growly, purple captor, speeding away from everything I ever knew.

Nov’k is sinfully handsome, covered in muscles, and claims he wants to wake up every day with me in his arms. He makes me feel beautiful for once in my life. Too bad he’s also the bossiest warrior on this side of the galaxy.

He may be bigger and badder than I am, but if he thinks he can kidnap me and order me around, he’s in for a big surprise.

NOV’K
I always thought I’d find my mate among the Earth females at the new hunter’s base, but the one who catches my attention is already mated. To distract myself from the disappointment, I take on a mission to rescue an unknown hunter from a group of hostiles.

That’s when I meet Heather. She doesn’t just smell mine; she’s smart, brave, and willing to help me despite the obvious dangers. My plans change immediately because nothing can ever make me leave her behind.

And once she’s in my shuttle, I’m never letting her go.

Coveted by the Hunter

I love this series!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 🖤💙💜💚
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏🌍
Character development: ☹️😋😘🥰

The heroine: Heather – in the time after the bugpocalypse she has been living with a community in the remains of what was once Albuquerque, New Mexico. They have a small settlement in a block of connected apartments and Heather doesn’t always agree with the things they do, but it is better than it was right after the alien bugs invaded earth. When someone in the community is killed, she gets his old job which was feeding a Xarc’n Hunter that they have locked up in a basement cell in the complex. Prior to that she didn’t know the community had been keeping him down there.

The Hero: Nov’k – he is a Xarc’n warrior who is on earth to help defeat the alien bugs which were originally created generations ago by the Xarc’n people as a tool of war. The bugs became out of control and went from planet to planet destroying all life. The Xarc’n warriors were created through genetic and technological innovations by his ancestors to fight the scourge. Though many on earth believe what they were originally told by the governments, that the Xarc’n brought the swarm to use to take over earth, not that they came to help. A warrior named Kan’n was caught by a group of renegades so they could steal his sentient ship, and the Albuquerque settlement agreed to jail him there. Nov’k travelled there to free Kan’n.

The story: Heather is told that since the renegades lost the sentient ship to other Xarc’n warriors, they have no need left to keep the warrior alive, so they won’t waste any more precious food on him. Kan’n is already week and emaciated since he has only been getting what Heather can spare of her own food. If he was stronger, she would have let him go, but doing so now would be a death sentence for both of them. So, when Nov’k corners Heather outside while she is taking out the trash, she agrees to help him free his fellow warrior the following night.

“I turned to Nov’k, my panic turning to anger. “What the hell? I helped you. You can’t just kidnap me. This wasn’t a part of our plans. Let me out.”
“No,” Nov’k said as the motion of the shuttle lifting off had me stumbling back to the bed. “You are mine now.””

Like the rest of the books in this series, this one had terrific characters, and the world building was awesome. The alien bugs are still adapting to the planet, and they have an invasive fungus which has now started to infect the gopher population on the plains, which in turn infected some humans who had been eating gopher meat. The fungus basically turns them into near zombies, which is disturbing and before the infection gets too bad, they are still sentient, so they can shoot guns, talk and do all sorts of damage. But that is just life after the bugpocalypse.
