Forbidden Flame: A Dark Fated-Mates Romance:
Magnus Avitus is an exiled alpha boss in the Anarcheim Alphaverse, a universe filled with mafia-like alphas who control just about everything. His uncle is the unscrupulous boss of the approved sector who exciled Magnus and made him boss of the forbidden sector, and an errand boy. Magnus and his seconds all hated his uncle, so when he intercepts a package that he hopes will help him with what he needs to do, he finds a beautiful omega. There are no omegas in the forbidden sector, so he is surprised to find that the woman is his mate.
Magnus wanted to overthrow his uncle and take his rightful place as the alpha boss of the approved sector. He was hoping the package he was to deliver would help him do that, but upon finding his mate inside, he realized that was not to be. Amora had been given to more than a few alphas and she had been disappointed each time. She was an assassin and thought he brought her there to kill someone. She had been sold by her family because she got a gift that was really a curse, and it never went away. Any alpha that touched her would burst into flames and die. Since then, she had gotten away but always seemed to be found and used for her gift/curse.
The story was pretty good, I liked that it was original, and I had liked the world of the Anaheim Alphaverse since reading the first four books in the Ruthless Warlords series. The fact that they are done in duet narration was also a huge selling point. I usually don’t like novella length books, but since all three of these were on one audiobook, I was able to justify the cost.
Princess Claimed: A Dark Fated-Mates Romance:
Ari is a princess that was running from two princes, Sethix and his twin brother Relix. They were giant entitled and greedy. She seemed to be always under siege due to her status and position was always at risk from people like them. She had been fleeing on a luxury cruise liner space craft when they caught up with her looking for the Princess’n Jewel, but she needed it to save those she loved. The two princes were determined to make her their sex slave. She used her gift to get away from them in the dark, when they shot the outer wall of the ship, and she fell.
Pavel is exiled and he is one of the warriors under Magnus in the forbidden sector. He was now a “wealthy, grumpy, anti-social outlaw”. He was in the shipping business with Magnus, and they trafficked in contraband. When he parked his ship on his home planet, he happened to catch a falling omega. He immediately knew she was his fated mate. She went into heat and he into rut. Though she has amnesia and can’t remember anything about who she is or how she ended up there.
This was another decent story, though I confess I did get a bit bored during this one. I am not sure if I just wasn’t in the mood for a book or if it was the quality of the story, I tend to think it may have been a bit of both.
War Prize of the Beast: A Dark Fated-Mates Romance:
Anora lived on a mostly unknown planet with her clan. They were fairly safe aside from the large insect-like creatures called Gerlak’s which came during one season each year. The Gerlak’s were dangerous to her people, but luckily, they weren’t a problem all the time and her people were aware that the Gerlak’s had a soft spot on their underbelly and could be killed. However, in recent times, a new foe has come to their planet. The Berserketh’s were a humanoid race but were more beast than man. They killed and ate anything in their paths and were decimating Anora’s clan.
Cheim only has ever known rage and bloodlust. He lives to kill and taste the blood of prey. However, when he captures Anora and smells her, he knows she is different. She soothes the rage that has always existed in him, and he realizes that he wants her and not just as prey. This was my favorite book of the three and was a pretty original story, which I always like.
This three-story audiobook was told in multiple points of view via duet narration and was narrated by Samantha Brentmoor and J.F. Harding. Samantha Brentmoor has a clear, pleasant voice and is really good at allowing the characters personality to come through in her voice. J.F. Harding has a deep gravelly voice, and he always sounds so natural. He is great at using different voices for different characters.
