The heroine: Jade Robert’s – she went to college with Marjorie Steel. She met a few of her brothers, but never Talon. Her heart always beat a bit faster when the two brothers came around, but Jade was in love with Colin at the time. Colin had since left Jade at the alter, though she wasn’t as upset as she should have been. She needed a change, and Marge asked her to come live with her in Grand Junction/Snow Creek Colorado, where she planned on getting a job as a lawyer.
The Hero: Talon Steel – He is the middle brother between Jonah and Ryan, their sister Marge is the baby. He was deployed in Iraq while Marge was at college. He had seen a lot of things that nobody should ever see. Talon didn’t mince words and wasn’t great at dealing with people. He has some past childhood trauma that he had never dealt with and so he keeps to himself, only using women for one night and never creating any connections.
The story: Talon picked Jade up when she came into town. He was immediately attracted to her though they didn’t get along the best. Talon knew he couldn’t let Jade in, he knew he couldn’t let anyone in, though it had never been a problem in the past. He had built a wall around his demons, and he didn’t think he could survive it if the wall came down. He had a feeling that Jade would threaten his wall if he let her get close.
I liked this story quite a bit and wanted to hear all of Talon’s story and was really hoping for him to get better. He was a pretty big jerk to women in the past. He didn’t think he was using them because they all came up to him and wanted him, he just went with what they wanted. He never really cared if the woman got off or not. He was a gruff and broody dude anyway, but when he tried to treat Jade like some of the other women, he felt bad and he wanted to please her, so that was definitely a step in the right direction. This was a pretty steamy one, made even hotter by Sebastian York’s sexy voice.
This audiobook was told in multiple points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Neva Navarre and Sebastian York. Sebastian is one of my favorite male narrators. He has a deep, gravelly voice which sounds so sultry, especially in the intimate scenes. Neva Navarre is new to me, and her voice is feminine and clear. You could definitely tell she was reading; she wasn’t nearly as natural sounding as Sebastian. I am not sure if I liked her voice or not. I was not happy to find out that this was book 1 of 3 books about Talon and Jade. I thought this series would be one of those with each book about a different couple.
