Day by Days by C.L. Quinn

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Bizarre dreams send Chione from her home near the Victoria Falls in Africa across the world to the American city of Seattle as she wonders if destiny has any plans for her. Destiny guards her secrets well, though, and after such a cryptic clue, she roams into the busy city, out of her element, alone, to find her path. She is a first blood vampire, born vampire a thousand years ago, a child of the moon…surely there is purpose to her existence on Mother Earth? For nearly a thousand years, it’s been Chione’s job to care for people in her village, people she loves who she would do anything for. It has always been her nature to do so.

Donovan returned home to Seattle after 6 months in the Amazonian Basin, exhausted, to attend to his duties as CEO of his families business. He could care less about business or profits, but he had a responsibility to the stockholders. All he really wanted to do was sleep, then return to the rain forest to protect it from corporate greed.

On a stormy night, by a violent sea, he meets a stunning woman who touches something in him he would have sworn died a long time ago. One night of incredible sex leaves him wanting more. But she’s disappeared and he has no idea who she is or how to find her.

Destiny brings together two lonely people on a night lit by lightning and thunder. Could they be destined to travel their journeys together? Were they meant to be?

Day by Days

Another very good story in this series!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 🖤💙❤️💚
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏🌍
Character development: ☹️😮😋😉🥰

Narration type: Solo Narration

The heroine: Chione – she is a first blood vampire from the children of the moon clan in Zambia near Victoria Falls. Chione has empathetic powers and has the power to calm down people whose emotions get the best of them. When she has dreams that call her to leave her home, she listens to her heart and heads to America, to Seattle where she knows her destiny awaits her.

The Hero: Donovan – he is a distant relative of Lamont, who was a wealthy man who knew about the supernatural and created a society of like minded individuals who were doing their best to study the paranormal beings and defeat them so humans can again reign supreme. Though Lamont’s delusions of grandeur got the best of him and he went a bit crazy in his desire to become a vampire so he would be strong enough to fight them. The first blood vampires found him and killed him, but not before he told Donovan everything and left his fortune to Donovan to take up where he left off and continue the fight against vampires. Donovan didn’t believe his uncle about vampires, and didn’t need his money as he owned his own company and was outrageously wealthy.

The Story: When Donovan was in his teens he was the quintessential wealthy young man with nothing to do but party and cause trouble, but after his father died when he was nineteen, he went out in the world and found purpose in the Amazon. His main goal in life now was to save the rainforests and the people, flora and fauna that make it their home. His company holds a charity ball every year to raise money and awareness for his projects. Chione decides to get some new clothes one night while in Seattle to fit in better, and the shop girl talks her into a beautiful dress and tells her about the charity galas that are being held in town on that same night. Chione decides to buy the dress and wear it to one of the events.

Like in previous books, there are a lot of things going on in this story. There are more than one villain as well, some that were introduced in previous books. Like Canzone, the mob boss that Mal and Luca were trying to put away when they were cops. Mal didn’t know it but Canzone was her uncle and since she moved to Africa, he wanted to see what was going on, Canzone had Luca killed a while ago, so when Luca turns up on his radar again, he knows something strange is going on. There is also McCall who owns a company that is destroying the Amazon Rainforest. Donovan is fighting against him and the fight gets deadly. Also, though Lamont is now dead, his files on everything he had learned about vampires cause troubles for our main characters as well.

This audiobook was told in multiple points of view and was narrated in solo narration by Pyper Down. I usually hate solo narration, but I like her voice and she is great with different voices and accents so you can easily tell what character is speaking at any given time. I have really been enjoying the audiobooks in this series despite the solo narration.
