ARC Review: Immortal by Morning (Argeneau, #37) by Lynsay Sands. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Immortal by Morning by Lynsay Sands

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Being an immortal rogue enforcer is never easy. But when human bones are found buried in a residential garden—and they happen to be discovered by your life mate—things get even more complicated in this latest installment of the Argeneau vampire series.

Crispinus Delacort is an immortal rogue enforcer and a homicide detective. But in his quiet city, he’s more likely to be rounding up truant teens than investigating murders. So, when he learns that human bones have been found in the garden of a sprawling rural home, it’s unexpected to say the least.

Abril Newman can’t believe her bad luck when she discovers a body buried on the grounds of her boss’s home, while chasing after Gina’s mischievous lab Lilith. She was just supposed to be house-sitting for a few days! And then Detective Delacort arrives. She knows she shouldn’t be thinking about love when there’s a crime scene outside the door. But ignoring her attraction to gorgeous Crispin is easier said than done.

When Crispin realizes that a rogue is involved, he knows this won’t be a simple investigation. Especially because he’s so distracted by Abril’s presence that all he wants is to kiss her senseless in every room of the manor. But he can woo her, solve the case, and stop a dangerous rogue by morning… right? All in a day’s work.

I still love this series, and I want more!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 🖤💙💜❤️💚
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏🌍
Character development: ☹️🥲😋😘🥰

The heroine: Abril Newman – she is an executive assistant and does a lot of extra work for her wealthy boss, like watering her plants, picking up groceries, housesitting and taking care of the dog while her boss is on extravagant vacations. Though she is determined to start only working during business hours after he boss returns from her latest trip. Abril has been staying at the remote mansion while renovations are finishing up and taking care of the dog, Lilith. When the dog digs up a skull in a part of the yard that is being excavated for an addition, Abril immediately calls the police.

The Hero: Crispinus Delacort (a.k.a. Crispin) – he is a homicide detective with the London, Ontario police and an immortal. The town is pretty sedate and doesn’t get a lot of murders, so they work more than just homicide cases. Though he and his partner Roberts, also an immortal, are pretty excited when they get called to the scene of a possible murder. Roberts was only 373, young in comparison to Crispin who had been alive for approximately 3000 years.

The story: The detectives determine that not only did the dog uncover a skull and body, but had also started digging up two right hands, meaning there were most probably at least three separate bodies in the former garden. While spending time, interviewing Abril, it isn’t long before Crispin figures out that she is possibly his life mate, especially after finding out that Roberts can read her mind and he can’t. Plus, the fact that he wants her, and he hasn’t wanted to have sex for a very long time.

I love this series, and it seems like it has been a long time since the last book. I just love the vampire immortal backstory, how they were originally from Atlantis, how they are immortal due to the nanos in their blood which were a technological innovation of a society that was far more advanced than any other in the world. The nanos were programmed for healing illness and injury and were designed to be flushed out of the system when they were done, but since a human body is always in a state of slow degradation, they just never finished their work and keep the person in top physical form for basically ever. It just makes sense, and I always love the big reveal to the non-immortal life mate. I could continue reading books in this series for years and not get bored.

Not to mention that there is always an exiting side story that adds mystery and suspense to a terrific romance and there is always plenty of steamy intimate scenes. This one had a very interesting storyline about the bodies found on the property and I couldn’t put it down throughout. The characters were all terrific, including all the members of the Argeneau family, Lucien was especially funny. I pretty much liked everything about this book, and I hope that Lynsay Sands keeps adding to this series.

I voluntarily read & reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts & opinions are my own.
